How much do you think it would cost to hire some off-duty national guard troops to patrol the french quarter all the time? It seems like it would be money well spent.
For example, let's say you hired 30 troops and paid them $200 a night (8 hours), so that's $6,000 a night times 365 equals $2,190,000. Now if you did that 24/7, it'd be $6,570,000 annually. Seems like that would be worth it, especially considering how much they spent on LED lights for the bridge. Now let's scale that up to 300 troops, which would really make a difference. That would be about $65,000,000 a year. In reality though you could probably get away with two 8 hour shifts, which would be $43,800,000 per year to keep the french quarter safe. You could implement it as a tax. If there's 390,000 people living in Orleans Parish, that would be about $11.25 per person annually. Although if you did it as a sales tax in the french quarter, it would probably pay for itself with the increase in tourism because it's now safe downtown.

That’s a hell of a starting point

New Orleans doesn’t do anything right except big events.
Idk why there was so much doubt that they’d pull off an incredible week. It’s what the city does.

Nola is used to wearing a mask and parading around for a short time, then it will be back to business as usual.

Surprising?
This is what we do and we do it amazingly well.
Everything else we suck

Not surprising at all. We are the best at handling major events. It is between events when all of the problems arise.
It’s just not possible to keep such a massive police presence around all year long. The troublemakers are all still there, just laying low

seen Philly fans in public?
Yes, as a matter of fact I have. Can't hold a candle to Mardi Gras revelers.

Besides my $46 double Hendricks / soda at Harrahs, things were great this weekend

NFL has to like what they see this week at least.
All the NFL cares about is $750 million in improvements were made to the Superdome.

It is very nice. I wish they’d keep it this way. There is no reason not keep it clean and safe. No reason the nopd shouldn’t be doing their jobs.

You're kidding me?! Holy crap! Was the casino crowded?
Anyway, the city looks beautiful and you can't dart an eye without seeing someone there to protect you. The LSP all look badass!
Watching the LSU band march down St. Charles today is a lifetime memory for my family. The last time I remember them doing that is for Rex almost 15 years ago! We sat next to a few families from Baton Rouge during the St. Louis Cathedral light show and they were having a great time.
If you live within driving distance and haven't partaken in the festivities well, your loss. shite on the city all you want at your expense.

Yap the casino was rolling. Sports book full, all the tables full. Steakhouse full. Every seat at the bars were taken.

One of the good things that has happened was awarding Sydney Torres the trash pick up in the quarter. You pay a little more, but they do a damn good job.
That sounds great…this has always been one of my beefs with the quarter. There was trash piled up head-high outside of every business.

Not trying to jinx. But have been all over the city this past week and today. Lots of happy people, celebrity sightings, and clean as I’ve seen it. I know the OT likes to rightfully shite on New Orleans, but the NFL has to like what they see this week at least.
Report back next weekend when the bandaid of temp fixes has been ripped off, there are fewer cops around, and everything is back to normal.

Didn’t a reporter that was down there covering the Super Bowl get murdered accidentally? That can’t be commonplace.

We were there last week .. so much construction was still going on in the FQ. But the temporary bollards were and the flat metal things were at many intersections.
