The Archdiocese of New Orleans will release the names of the clergy who have been "credibly accused" of abusing minors dating back 50 years, amid a scandal that has rocked one of the world's largest and most influential religious institutions.

quote:

"The clergy files are being examined very carefully," Aymond said in a prepared statement Tuesday (Oct. 16). "It is important to note that the review of the files will go back at least 50 years to ensure the list is accurate and complete. We will publish the list as soon as the work is finished. It will be sooner rather than later."

Aymond did not say how and where the names will be published. It was also not immediately clear if other Louisiana dioceses will release the names of priests accused there.

Forward the list to Chris Hanson and let’s bring back Catch a Predator. That was some good television.

Would have been a lot easier to just list the names NOT credibly accused.

I’ll be curious to see if donations from parishioners dry up knowing that money is going to be used to pay pervert sex settlements.

If the priests were teachers then they should just get probation. They are not “victims”. Am I right?

This is already happening around the country (possibly around the world. The article I read awhile back talked about parishes throughout the US).

If it were not for the Schools the Catholic Church would be on its last legs in Louisiana. The luckiest thing they ever did was become the best schools in S. Louisiana. All the young people I know are part of it because of the schools.

As a Baptist who doesn’t agree with a lot of the Catholic Church’s practices, this is a good thing for the church and they should be doing more of this.

No priest has ever gone there with me as a former altar boy. I wonder if I'd know anyone on this list. Make a thread when they publish the names.

We had an asst pastor in our parish who died of AIDS in tbe early '80s, but I always assumed he was just sharing needles.

He might have gotten it from a blood transfusion.

And people still give their hard earned money to the church. Blows my mind.
