technically speaking the airport, and the land it’s on is New Orleans and not Kenner. I don’t think Kenner has any jurisdiction there
Ughhhhhh.....wut?

the new airport in Berlin is like 10 years over deadline
Are you serious? That seems hard to believe.
I remember the Denver airport being a shitshow. Can't remember all of the details, but I do know a lot of it was their baggage handling system.

So instead of making Orleans Parish residents pay for this, they're making people who can actually afford a plane ticket pay for it.

Google Half as Interesting Berlin Airport and watch that youtube video. Linked it a few weeks ago.
So bad they are replacing TVs because they never turned them off while trying to fix the fire suppression system.

Only reason they are building the new terminal is because the NFL told them they needed it to host another Super Bowl...yup heard it here first
Meh.
That may have pushed it along faster, but there was a def. need for a new airport. If you think the old one is ok for the future, you have shite for brains. That means you IB Freeman.

You mean the people who use the airport?

By comparison, Hobby added a 6 gate international expansion that cost $150mm. It was announced in 2011 and completed in the spring 2016.
Damn. I'm starting to think airport projects might be complicated or something.
If I were a politician and had any say on one of these projects in the future, I would take whatever the "experts" said was the finish date and add two years to the date. Looks great if it actually comes out anywhere near the target.

No no, he clarified, no taxes go towards the airport. FAA grants do though.
Grants go towards the airfield upkeep, whether a new terminal is built or not. Baton Rouge and Shreveport will also receive grant monies this year.
The airport is more than a terminal, and construction of the terminal does not affect the runways, taxiways, etc which require maintenance.

Of course not. The airline cost per enplanement (CPE) may change, but they can absorb it through any number of mechanisms. In fact, the improved concessions and restaurants at the new airport will more than offset the cost. Remember, at MSY all costs and revenues are pooled, so if the new dining and bar options generate more cash, it just goes to offset the cost of running the airport.
I’ll pause here so folks like fightin tiger can skip the information and just jump to the part where they provide their opinion in the absence of logic

Or the folks that just read Nola airport and start with their normal BS.
Disclaimer- As with anything in this state that happens and goes wrong, there is a shitton of blame to go around. And yes that includes Nola policians.

Wasn't there a 20.3 million FAA grant issued last year to help with expanding for the new terminal? Building new aprons and taxiways that wouldn't be needed if thennew terminal wasn't built.
I believe it was even stated that the new FAA funds would allows for that money to be spent elsewhere.

It won’t be until after the election and after Kenner improves their pitiful access roads to the airport.

Pretty sure the state is pretty heavily involved with this little project as well.

Yeah but Houston is not run by whore-mongering thieves. Nola doesn’t have that luxury.

I believe I read that the estimate was initially, landing fees might go up $1 per passenger landing. I guess we will see if the airlines will increase tickets $1 or just eat the cost.
Either way, it's a nothing burger.

The latest holdup has been caused by the discovery of an AT&T utility vault, which holds telecom infrastructure, in the path of the final stretch of access road leading to the new North Terminal.
Chris Spann of Burns & McDonnell told the board Thursday that AT&T has promised to bury the vault within the next three weeks so that paving of the block-long stretch of road can be completed by mid-October.
1) WTF is happening that this is just being discovered?
2) No way AT&T does it that fast.
