Lame.
The current one doesn't use nearly all of it's gates.

12 million people came through the airport last year and the number keeps rising. I do think the current one is kind of dumpy, especially the bars and eating choices.

The new one is going to be amazing.

They'll get bought out under eminent domain, so it's only a semi-dumb question.

Do you have an example?

I think Austin, Texas did. But that's during the timeframe
when they went from being basically Baton Rouge to being Seattle.

Probably not a great comparison to New Orleans right now.

So let me get this straight--more eating and drinking establishments justify a billion dollars in spending?

Just in what way is the new one going to be amazings? Visually? is that all?

Why don't you just kill yourself so you don't have to go on in this crazy world where things get upgraded. How angry are you every second of every day?

If you follow him on other boards, he's def. an angry person.

Now I'm suddenly for no real reason at all hoping the Saints get built a new multi billion $ stadium.

You got your airport terminal.

Tell me just what that means to you??

A victory for bureaucrats!! a victory for corruption!! Maybe Mitch will have you to his next fund raiser.

Over and under on days the airport has delays in it's first year of operation due to terminal construction, software installation or electrical issues---I say 50.

Why don't you take your wealth of knowledge on everything and run for public office so you can do all of it so perfectly?

That is the only one I can think of too but Lunchbox is the expert I am sure he has an extensive list.

There are several that built new airports in the sixties and seventies but I am too stupid to know the ones that abandoned a functioning terminal building on a airport to build another one on the same airport.

I posted two that took all of two seconds to find. Much like the tariffs, you're disappearing when things aren't going the way your warped mind imagined them.

If they do I hope the population of Orleans and Jefferson Parish is taxed to build it and leave the rest of us out of it.

You don't mind potholes and inadequate jails and inadequate water and sewer systems and crappy public schools. Why do you want new stadiums and airport terminals?

I'll say a few things here.

1) The airport is run by the CITY OF NEW ORLEANS. The interstate is run - essentially be the STATE OF LOUISIANA. Have these two ever worked well on anything?

2) The decision to do the north terminal was made in April 2013. The state has had 5 years to figure out how to build a new exit. And all we have after 5 years is some options. How is that the city/airport fault? Blame Jindal, JBE, and our local legislative delegation.

3) The project is being built with a billion bucks, coming mostly from airport funds and airport bonds, which will be paid back with... airport funds. Landing fees will go up, which will be passed along to the customers. The balance is from FAA construction money, which is federal money that can only be used for... airport construction. So... if we don't use this money... some other airport will.

4) What we should have done, if we were smart, was to make the "airport connector" a toll road. Charge a buck or two for everyone using the airport flyover ramp, bond the money out, and build it. It could have been done by now, or at least by Feb 2019. They could have still built a little ground level road for the cheap people, which is what they are doing now. But Louisiana is anti-toll, so we can't do something that makes sense.

5) I personally thought the south / west alternative, which would have been built to the west of the current terminal, was the way to go. But that would have required a tremendous amount of business relocations, which would have driven the cost even higher and took more time to build. The north alternative had land ready, did not require any major business relocations.

6) The new airport has 35 gates which can be expanded to 42. Currently, Concourses B, C, and D have a total of 37 gates... not all of which are currently being used. Concourse A isn't being used either.

7) Operationally, the old facility is expensive to use, and you can only put so much lipstick on the pig. It's still a hog of resources. To renovate the current facility as needed would cost if much, if not more, than a whole new facility.

Why do you consistently ignore facts?

Taxpayers pay a fraction of the costs of airport construction. The airliners are paying the bulk of the costs.

Second, food and beverage and retail is the primary way to make money at an airport. They exceed landing fees.

It's like you've never looked at a financial statement before.

The entire new airport was an unneeded boondoggle. There are not as many gates in the new as the old one.

The one we have now is perfectly fine.

They have no plans for the old terminal.
Three idea is GA will move in. We already have two FBOs on site I don't know if they are moving.
It would be great ig an Amazon or something took over the area.
