One problem is, it costs a lot to maintain.
Yep. The new one will be cheaper to operate. The new luggage logistics system will be much better too.
Screw the haters, I love the new airport idea.
And don't listen to Freeman, the design of the new one will allow for plenty of growth in flights.
One of the change orders done after construction started was to change things to allow more larger planes.

No just saying there is no rationale for a new airport.
You're basically against anything anyone does. Has government ever done anything you've thought was justified?

It is STUPID to abandon the parking we have now and even more stupid to start using rental car shuttles again.
The shuttles don't bother me. Lots of airports have shuttles to rental/long term parking.
Crossing active runways does bother me. Are they building tunnels to get to existing rental/parking? Are they building new rental/parking on land near the terminal?
I'm betting if you follow the paper trail, you'll find that Mitch and his buddies own a SHITTON of land on the North side of the airport near the new terminal, just ripe for development.

Build a tunnel to it.
A tunnel is already there.
The tunnel to nowhere
TL;DR
A tunnel was built under the east-west runway in 1991. It costs a crap load of money to maintain it every year since.
It was meant to be part of an access road from Loyola drive to Airline highway. The road never got approval and never will because you can't let terrorist drive cars under an active runway.

You are basically for all government spending.
The airport terminal is a boondoggle and will do NOTHING to benefit taxpayers. MSY operates quite efficiently now.
I challenge any traveler to time themselves from parking to arrival at their gate at any other airport the size of MSY and tell me MSY is a bad airport.
It benefits Friends of Mitch and you know it.

Literally no one has said the way this is going down is good. I get that Trump has broken you entirely, but try to use whatever brain power you have left to actually comprehend what people say.

So you are just really pissed about the concrete deal aren't you?
Posted on 9/5/18 at 11:51 am to LNCHBOX
Wouldn’t a total renovation of the existing terminal have been a better solution? Jacksonville did this and I am impressed with how if turned out. Even Memphis is going this route.

Does not have as many gates.

We had to build a billion dollar terminal to upgrade baggage handling???
No question that overall airfares will increase as somewhere down the line gate fees will increase. If not how is it going to be paid for?

change orders
This is why it was built. Years of change orders, years of new roads, years of system upgrades to make things work ect. Years of deals with cronies. Landrieu is the same guy that picked the management of the sewer and water board.

I agree with you. When I don't need to check luggage I can leave my house an hour before my flight and be at my gate in fifteen minutes.

Maybe. I'm not privy to all the info. But we've already put lipstick on this pig once for the Superbowl a few years ago. At some point, its time to but the bullet and replace.

Do you know any taxpayer that knows about the concrete deals that likes to see their money spent in such a fashion??
That is only one of literally hundreds of small and not so small deals Friends of Mitch enjoy I suspect.

Are you saying we can't do what other cities do? Why not?

I will bet you whatever amount of money you want to be that the budget of the airport authority does not go down because of the new airport terminal.
That is laughable.

so is the old terminal now going to be used solely for import/export type cargo, or for private planes, etc?
will the bump in import/export goods directly benefit/help pay for the new terminal?

Slat Lake City is spending $3b on new facilities.
Is that enough or is your whiny arse still not satisfied?
