All of the infrastructure is stranded on the wrong side of the east-west runways and will have no easy access to the new terminal. Long/short term parking, taxi lots, rideshare lots, all of it. It's amazing to me that this half thought out plan was allowed to go to construction.
It's pretty horrible.
Thing is, if you look at an overhead pic, there was just as much, if not more, space to the west of the existing terminal facility where they could have easily built the EXACT SAME THING THEY ARE BUILDING, but continued to actually well utilize all of the existing infrastructure.

They dropped the ball using loyola, when the existing exits could be tied to Bainbridge. Kenner at least stepped up and built ra new road. They haven't even selected a plan yet for the interchange so I think by 2025 it'll be done.

That's a dumb response.

Did they really forget to build the new access road to the new terminal? How is that possible?
Don’t fret. They’re gonna put a couple of traffic lights on the runway, so planes and automobiles can share the strip.
Unfortunately though, you will have to pay the tickets that come from those traffic cams.

I agree. They could have refurbished the existing terminals.
That area of veterans is all low income housing. This whole thing makes no sense at all.

The state of Louisiana expects to finalize a borrowing plan with federal officials this year to widen Interstate 10 in Baton Rouge and other work, Louisiana’s transportation chief said Wednesday.
"I think it will be finished before the end of the year," said Shawn Wilson, secretary for the state Department of Transportation and Development. "It is not a point of concern."
The airport will be ready next October and the state will have a borrowing plan ready for the end of the year. Anyone think we are going to have the road built in 9 months?

It's just a textbook example of "only in Louisiana." Surely shite like this has to happen in other states, right?

There was a thread on here six-ish months ago about he fact that the terminal was almost done but they hadn't even started the road study yet, and someone has to make money off of that for at least 3 years before construction can even start.

Moisant Stock Yards.
Most city's have suburban airports. Dulles is 30 minutes away from DC. Cinncinatti's airport is in another state.

The City of New Orleans has owned the property for decades.

Well to be fair to the DOTD, who would have thought the airport would have been on schedule? They thought they still had another 4-5 years to get it completed...

I went to the local meetings.
One plan would require every gas station on loyola to close and Sams.
All plans require the fire station to go. Another requires that hotel to be torn down.
These things should have been studied years ago.

"they" still don't know who owns the fire station property

So, what was the rationale for not trying to locate it on the same side as the existing terminal?
I actually don't necessarily have a problem with the idea of building a NEW terminal and not just continuing to try the 'lipstick on a pig' approach with the old. I just don't understand the choice to build it completely away from every bit of existing infrastructure and with no easy access to what you are building.

First time seeing the new construction last week. Good looking building!
