stay away from the GM 5.3L motor

never heard that. I have 235,000 on one right now and have had very minimal engine issues.

My ex-gf's mom bought a 2014 9-passenger Suburban and the motor ate itself at 9k miles.

That's not the norm at all. I'm not really a GM guy, but the 5.3 is pretty damn bullet proof.

The 5.3L will run great but many of them will suffer from "lifter slap" as the mileage increases. Solid motor but the noise can get pretty loud at highway speeds. Mine did that. At current prices, I'd go with the 6.2L

The complaints with my 2015 GMC Yukon are that the 3rd row does not fold down completely flat and the wireless charging is not worth a frick. Other than that, it has been great.

The 2016 GMC lineups will have android auto and carplay if that interests you.

I'm looking at sequoia and expedition for purchase sometime around end of year.

Any car folks know if the best time to buy is close to end of year or some other time?

I rent a Tahoe/Yukon 2-3 times a month for work. They are my favorite full size vehicle ATM. I like the exterior of the Tahoe more, but the interior of the Yukon. That push button start is awesome. The interior finish is nice. I like the hidden compartment behind the touch screen. The only issue I have seen is on one of the Tahoes, it sounded like water was flowing through the doors. Strange I know, but I looked it up and other people had the same problem. Keep in mind I only drove vehicles under 50k miles, so I can't comment on long term reliability.

When the next model year hits the dealer is the bes time to buy the current year. Right now Mac Haik has about $12k off Expedition ELs. You can get a 2wd Platinum for around $52k, which is a very good deal compared to the Suburbans and Yukon XLs. They are going to be redesigning in the next two years or so though, if that matters to you.

The early ones are. 2000-2006. Phenomenal fricking motors. Ever since 2007 when they added Active Fuel Management aka cylinder deactivation they get a little dodgy at around 150k miles. I sell used vehicles up here in Montana so I've seen it a lot.

In December I sold a guy a 2010 LTZ crew Silverado 1500 5.3 with right at 150k miles. He brought it into our service department in March or April with low end knock, which means you need a new engine.

We bought him out of it and put him into a 2010 Tundra at no cost to him. Shitty that GM won't own up to the issues that these motors have. Ever since then I've gotten a bad taste in my mouth every time I see an 07-newer 5.3 with 140k+ miles on it.

My sister in law got the new Sequoia last year, and my sister got the Suburban.

I like the looks of the Toyota on the road, but that suburban is pretty nice on the inside.

Ford should unveil the next generation Expedition in November in LA or January in Detroit. (Maybe Navigator in Nov and Expedition in Jan) Shortly thereafter you should start to see some serious rebates on the previous generation Expedition models.

Look for a used 2015 and pay just over half the MSRP.

There are two major reasons their resale is so bad:
1) as pointed out by Hermit Crab, they routinely sell for $15k+ off sticker; MSRP is a number not based in reality. Which is an absolutely stupid practice for all 3 American manufacturers to continue in 2016.

2) They're kinda crap. Not major crap, just the same ole GM mediocre product they've been making for forever. They're relatively cheap to keep running but they're gonna look rough on the inside in a few years. I babied my old Yukon and the driver's seat was missing half the "leather" by 60K miles. The new ones have about the same reliability ratings.

Forbes has the Suburban on its list of new cars to avoid, LINK (slideshow). "It is expected to hold just 47% of its value after 4 years and 32% after 5..."

At 35 grand for a used one, like this one, you can't really beat them in terms of capacity, towing, and power train reliability unless you find a killer deal on a 2010 Land Cruiser, but I don't see the value of buying new.

At what point are theses totally inaccurate cliched responses going to stop?

Which means you're not going to be paying half of what a new once costs for a one year old model.

And your own numbers make your advice bullshite.

Car Gurus has the 2015 Yukon Denali at $55K to $58K

2016 Yukon Denali is listed at $68K

55/68 = 80% residual value worst case scenario before negotiations

The "New" Nissan Aramada is also releasing next month so you should see pretty big discounts on the previous generation of those soon as well.

2015 LT for $35k

Are you telling me the MSRP for this LT wasn't close to $60k?

It's gonna take me a few minutes to accurately build & price this on chevy.com so just hang tight and I'll really prove you wrong as shite.

ETA: (with absolutely no options added):

Didn't bother reading my own post, or the rest of your own? Just about no one is paying MSRP for new. According to your very own words, MSRP is just a number not based in reality, right?

It doesn't matter what you build on their site, the number it spits out is meaningless according to you.

Drink a cup of coffee you idiot. I said that a year old model could be had for "just over half of MSRP." That statement is factual.

I didn't say people paid MSRP for new ones. If I meant that I would have said "buy a 2015 for just over half what the original buyer paid" - which, again, is not what I said.

Sorry GMAC has you over that barrel.
