re: Roth Income Limit- What if exceeded? - readysetgeaux on 2/15/19 at 9:39 pm
I just went through this. Recharacterize to traditional and convert back to Roth. You can call the company you have your Roth with and they should be able to walk you through it. Can all be done online. ...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: Investing for Grandchildren - readysetgeaux on 2/12/19 at 6:47 pm
We have 529s setup for the kids. My parents intend for this to be money for the kids after college and spent however they wish so tying it to education doesn't meet the parameters. Thanks for everyone's input. I will go with custodial account. ...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: Investing for Grandchildren - readysetgeaux on 2/12/19 at 9:33 am
So the Roth IRA would have to be in the grandparent's name and handed over as a gift at the appropriate time, correct? I am leaning towards a custodial account - decided Fidelity over Vanguard due to minimum investment amounts on mutual funds - for the sole reason is my parent's finances are a b...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
Investing for Grandchildren - readysetgeaux on 2/11/19 at 8:20 pm
My parents have indicated they wish to start an investment account for my two small children (1 and 3). They would start with an initial deposit of $500 and automatic monthly deposits of $50. This is not earmarked for education and will be handed over to them when they are 25 to spend/save as they ...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (3)
re: Backdoor Roth IRA Help - readysetgeaux on 1/28/19 at 8:02 pm
you're fine. You have until the tax return filing deadline to correct it.
What about any earnings? I assume these are taxable and Vanguard and Fidelity will give me the ability to track earnings on those specific contributions. One more question. I currently have access ...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
Backdoor Roth IRA Help - readysetgeaux on 1/28/19 at 4:33 pm
It appears my MAGI for 2019 will exceed the allowable limit for Roth IRA contributions or at-least in the phase out stage and possibly for 2018 as well. Currently, I contribute monthly to reach the annual $12k max contribution for my wife and I's Roth's. 1) What do I do about the money that was ...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
re: Funding 529 plan for my children - readysetgeaux on 1/2/19 at 4:12 pm
Yes there is a scholarship exception that allows you to withdraw up to the amount of the scholarship without having to pay the 10% penalty, but earnings will be taxed.
You can avoid the penalty if you get a college scholarship. There are a few special exceptions to the 10% penalty rule, i...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
re: Long read on GE and their fall - readysetgeaux on 12/27/18 at 12:59 pm
There is a way to get around the paywall for all articles with no limits. WSJ considers links to articles from Facebook to be advertising, and allows full access. Next time you find a WSJ article you want to read, simply paste the following address BEFORE the address of the paywalled article in your...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: Are IR blasters not a thing for Android phones now? - readysetgeaux on 12/19/18 at 3:22 pm
I initially thought it was a gimmicky feature but came in very handy when I needed it. Great for changing games at bars or when the kids hide the damn remote. Would love for this feature to make a comeback....Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (4)

re: Best place around BR to get a Christmas tree? - readysetgeaux on 11/25/18 at 3:00 pm
For several years I bought from Calandro's and got great trees but at a premium price. Last year I got one from Home Depot and was pleasantly surprised. ...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
re: Acorns Investment - readysetgeaux on 11/22/18 at 7:58 pm
I've used it in the past for a year or so. I found the investments to under-perform. I also tried betterment and came to the same conclusion. Now I automatically deposit into Robinhood and invest as I see fit. ...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
