The root of all comic book fandom is escapism. By very nature, it’s harder for men to connect to women superheroes. That immediately breaks some of the illusion. Having female leads is wonderful and should be celebrated. But don’t blame men when they don’t see the movie that you admit is not made for them

This doesn’t even address the preachy bullshite that only further breaks the escape

What they never want to admit when women led entertainment goes poorly is that if the major of women supported it, they would make so much money.

The fact is women don’t support women entertainment, yet it’s some how men’s fault

Who gives a shite about these Marvel movies anymore? What is this like the 50th one now? Maybe people are just tired of the MCU in general.

What i find funny is that the marketing in asian markets only geared towards the one asian one, whereas in america, it was the black militant lesbian.

FYI: It bombed even worse in Asian markets.

I’d be fine watching a movie with women leads.

Assuming the plot is great, the actresses are talented and the writers don’t use the hour to lecture me on politics or their views on gender equity.

In other words focus on making a great movie instead of pushing a political agenda and a lot of people will watch.

Marvel had that with Black Widow. It was pretty well received by audiences...even though it was a prequel / origin story. It would've had a huge box office if it wasn't released in the middle of covid and been released to stream at home at same time it was in theaters.

Because no one views women as superheroes

I wouldn't go that far. One of those Cocomelon spinoffs my kids love watching have a song about a woman superhero. She fixes all the boo-boos, cleans the house, makes dinner, picks up the car to get the kids from school, etc., etc. So, there is an audience if done properly

I didn't read the whole thread so this may have been said already. IMO, I don't think it has as much to do with women leads or female superheroes as it does with bad decision making.

TLDR, no one wanted this movie.

Case in point....

The first Captain Marvel movie did well enough because it hit in the middle of Disney/Marvel hype with Avengers happening.

Brie Larson's performance in it left a lot to be desired.

She made stupid comments about men not watching or something.

Her role in Avengers Endgame was met with meh.

There are internet rumors about her tenuous relationship with male cast members.

Kamala Kahn is a D level hero with an OK series on Disney+.

The actress was charming in a TV setting, but not a big screen draw.

The actress playing Monica didn't have a good on screen debut in Wandavision and was overall forgettable.

So, a movie with a lead that no one likes, and two other characters that no one cares about. It better have a great story and from what I'm reading, it doesn't.

it’s like the Bill Burr rant about the WNBA…women prove they can spend money and flock to theaters (Barbie, Taylor Swift concert), yet they didn’t flock to Ghosbusters or this. Yet it’s men’s fault these movies fail?

then the media and sentiment in general mock “nerd neckbeards” yet then wonder why those same “nerd neckbeards” don’t go see these movies? even though that demographic are already fans and have a lot of disposable income? it’s exactly who hot chick superhero movies should be targeted at

Goes back to the Bill Burr thing about the WNBA and women's sports in general. Women aren't buying tickets or watching their own stuff. Men have their stuff and support it. Its pretty simple.

ETA: Eighteen with earlier.
