this could mean you can’t be on your own property
This is also concerning to me. If I'm on my private property I can't be within 25' of police?

Small government and freedom yall

Were there not already laws on the books that prohibited people from interfering with cops performing their duties or making an arrest? This just adds an arbitrary 25’ boundary and will probably get overturned when someone challenges it in court.

Jeff Landry is becoming a bigger douche by the day.

Nah, you can still film anything you want at 25'. Nobody licking boots with that law. Imagine you are a cop and you got some screaming woman 2 feet from your ear not knowing if she will shoot or stab you while you're trying to arrest her baby daddy after she called to cops for him hitting her. You never know what people will do to you while your back is turned. I think people should be able to film whatever they want but at a distance. Protect the cop while he's doing his job. Film the cop to protect yourself/others. Simple

Care to make an actual argument?
Sure. Officer is wrestling a suspect into custody. Person #2 comes running up with his cell phone out, but officers can't do anything about it because the person is "filming". Come to find out, cell phone boy is the suspects brother and now has the officer in a rear naked choke.
Could have just said no, you don't care to make an actual argument. What you did here was just spew "bullshite" again. You know good and well this does nothing to prevent your scenario.

If you look at the 3 point line in basketball, 25'~ is not that far. If you have seen videos of 1st amendment auditors, cops always want you to go to the other side of the street or back up waaay further than 25'. They almost always do. Now, cops won't be able to do that. With good phones and cameras, you can easily zoom in from 25' and still have excellent clarity.

The Louisiana measure's author, state Rep. Bryan Fontenot, said the legislation was drafted to provide officers “peace of mind and safe distance to do their job.”
“At 25 feet, that person can’t spit in my face when I’m making an arrest,” Fontenot said while presenting his bill in a committee earlier this year. “The chances of him hitting me in the back of the head with a beer bottle at 25 feet — it sure is a lot more difficult than if he’s sitting right here.”
Damnit Bryan.

You don't think there's a reaction advantage in 25 ft. vs. 5 ft.? I've been a cop in DFW for 27 years and have seen first-hand what happens when you let people get into your scene.

Choking an officer is already illegal. How does this bullshite law prevent that?
By creating distance.

I am for reciprocal laws....
Cop cant walk up on you to ask you bullshite questions or body check you unless you are being arrested..
get out of my face works both ways.... first case will get thrown out.... officer sees you filming from 50' away, walks over to person and says you are within 25' and under arrest.... department gets sued..... the will say it is not fair..... big payout and taxes go up.... police stop doing crime enforcement and start writing tickets.

No it’s not. It’s a 25’ buffer. People can still film.
There's a 99.9% chance cops will just frick with anyone filming anywhere close then claim they thought they were within 25 ft but of course didn't have time to measure.

Except that cops lie and say don't film and get back or go to jail.
If recent history has taught us anything, it's that filming is mportant.

So this is likely a complete waste of time and resources just so Landry can say he's tough on crime without actually doing anything substantive.
Different laws. The Arizona law specifically said no filming 8’ from police. This law doesn’t say shite about filming. So the suit is going to have to be that people have a right to get as close to an arrest as they want no matter the circumstances.
Doesn’t make it a good law, but since it doesn’t mention filming it will likely have to be litigated again.

This new 25’ force field the cops will have is gonna be cool. Much more effective than just making it illegal to spit on or hit a cop with a beer bottle.

Land of the free. You can also be arrested for filming a cop 20 feet away.
