really did not know, so if I buy a pair of boots in TX I am supposed to pay LA a use tax?
I don't know what the use tax applies to, can't remember the details.

So the state has passed a law to force out-of-state businesses to report on the questionable tax liabilities of individuals that the state cannot legally enforce, so they can then use intimidation to compel citizens to pay increased income taxes that they will squander in the most spectacular of ways. And they wonder why people move to Texas, Florida, and wherever else.

I used to buy pretty much all my electronics from the Millerville Best Buy, but the service has been so shitty that I've started ordering elsewhere.

I thought the notifications had to be mailed and labeled “important tax document” by January 31...they can just email it?

Any idea of who these bigger sites are? Amazon and overstock are obvious but who else? Shouldn’t we be able to have access to the list of online retailers they say they have already notified about this? I can’t find the names of the actual companies that LDR says they have notified.

To be fair, you always owed the taxes on these purchases. It's nothing new. They are just doing more to track this to avoid people underpaying.

So when I buy a souvenir while on vacation in Florida, should I report that to Louisiana also? What about the meals I buy while traveling? Because that's basically the same thing. Why is it the state's business what I buy and where I buy it from?

Your lucky if you go to Best Buy in BR and have someone help you. I’ve walked out of there before because I couldn’t get anyone to help me

What if I bought stuff that I gave to others? Bought my mom some gifts for Mother's Day last year. She lives in MS. So those gifts are not being used in LA. But JBE still wants some of that? He can go frick himself. LA was one of the states that lost thousands of residents last year. I can sure as hell see why.

When you don't support local businesses you hurt your community

When the local businesses don't have what I'm looking for, I go online. Doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

That desk willed to me by my grandfather? Pay a tax on it every year. Computer that I just paid sales tax on when purchased? Taxed again at the end of the year and every year after?

Can someone explain this to me?

I am always amazed people still live in Louisiana. Place is a dumpster. Most of my family moved out years ago after living there since the late 1700s.

If taxes are to be paid shouldn’t they be paid to the state where the business is located?

I think it’s because the “transaction” took place on your computer in Louisiana.

The state government estimates the value of a businesses assets every year and they pay a tax on it. My wife deals with this. I gave her 2 computers from home and she had some furniture given to her when she started. Despite her paying nothing for them, she pays this tax on their estimated value every year.

Why would we owe taxes on something that is just shipped to my home?

What if it took place with me in Houston or Gulfport?

But then just shipped to my home. Nothing makes sense.

You are taxed by the parish and state where ownership is transferred to the purchaser. Where you receive it is where you'll pay tax.
