I love this. I think it’s BS that it’s just unknown what you could get or couldn’t get for pay

Agreed.. anyone who’s ever done any job hunting knows what a PITA it is to try to figure out what the salary is for any given advertised job.. As ive gotten older, ive gotten a little better at figuring out which jobs are worth applying for and what their pay range might be- but FRICK them for making me have to do any ‘guesswork’ when it comes to my livelihood.. just put it out there along with the job title and location, for chrissakes .

Yearly review time, it’s helpful.

How is it helpful to know what your counterpart in NY makes when you don’t know exactly why or have the same cost of living?

Got to assume all the downvotes are from business owners.

Personally think this is a good thing. People should be getting paid for the work they do instead of low balled. Honestly in the long run, I think this will be better for businesses too. People who get low balled find out other salaries and jump ship. Sometimes those people end up being top performers. This type of transparency id imagine would help stop the constant job jumping by younger generations since they are getting paid correctly from the get go.

How would you feel if restaurants didn't disclose prices and charged what they thought individual diners would pay?

They do that now with certain items. Ever heard of market price?

I love it personally. If you work for large companies with offices in different states, you can use it as a gauge to see if you are paid fairly.

Does it need to be a law? No, but it is super insanely annoying that companies will not disclose their pay until after applications and interviews. A lot of these places are just wasting everyone's time with their garbage pay.

Um, no

It would be similar to a restaurant not posting prices online, and you don’t know the cost until you arrive. Which many nice places do….

I mean this is super beneficial for internal job transfers. Someone whose a specialist for operations and a specialist for sales is going to make quite a different salary. If someone is looming for that next step, it helps them narrow opportunities down and not waste an interview slot.

I was talking with my former manager yesterday and she can see this information already and she said that she didn’t apply to a few jobs because they simply weren’t worth her time as they were pay cuts

You could put what you think you're worth on your resumé if it's a time wasting issue.

I will say, that’s what’s great about the current job market. Recruiters telling you straight up

Have always done this at my company and it has never stopped people over qualified from applying, interviewing, then getting upset that our entry level pay for the position isn't on par with their experience.

What are the cons of a business listing the salary/hourly rate on job postings?

That isn’t the question. There are many pros for businesses not to allow smoking inside. But it’s still bullshite when the govt forces a business to not allow smoking…

Cheering on the govt when they long dick companies with more govt power is how we got in the mess we are in

They should require applicants to disclose what they were paid at their previous or current employer.

It's not just white collar jobs doing it - local truck driving jobs hide their pay behind applications as well and they will not discuss it over the phone. When I was heading back to work last month I was shopping around for local jobs and absolutely zero of these hr losers would discuss pay until they had my application. I asked each one why not and they replied that it was "policy". Told them that was fine and I'd take my eleven years of experience to a place that wouldn't waste my time.

I feel like they’re all lawn maintenance companies or roofing companies lol

As has been pointed out, this does nothing but help hiring managers. I have never met a hiring manager that wouldn’t be in favor of it.

Wait, I’m the one who asked that question. How is the question I asked not the question?
