The current mayor is awesome and has slowed down the bleeding. Unfortunately, it may be too late. New Iberia should have marketed itself as a Houma or just sell people on being close enough to Lafayette. It’s not far at all from south Lafayette. Unfortunately years of good ol boy politics stymied growth.

I know a guy who’s from new Iberia. He has a wife who wants to live in River ranch.

All I got.

I think that it’s unfortunate when people associate a city or a place by its worst qualities. The common thing (especially older towns) is to put a place down because you want to make you feel like you chose a better place to live, or that you “made it”. Regardless of where you live, there are going to be good things and there are going to be bad things. There are plenty of examples of both for most places around here.

But then so will all of Louisiana in about 50 years. Outmigration is the beginning of the end.

The entire stretch along LA1 from Lockport to port fourchon is dying. It’s getting pretty depressing with all of the abandoned houses.

Grand Isle is still booming though.

There are too many sub saharans there that make New Iberia a shite hole. Many folks moved to Youngsville/Broussard. I used to have family there and several have moved towards lafayette.

No. My dad lived their since the '90s. The city and his neighborhood got progressively worse particularly over the last decade. Getting burglarized while at work was the last straw. The place is very Español and "culcha" now. He also got road rage shot at by an erratic driver of culcha.

He moved to Lafayette less than two years ago.

And turning around and selling their New Iberia homes at River Ranch prices.

For anyone still living there, what are they building down there road from Westgate? I know it’s not the solar panel place, that’s by the airport.

What’s with all the dime pieces that grew up in New Iberia and left for the Baton Rouge area?

I know only three women from New Iberia and they are all undisputed 10’s.

I will hang up and listen now.

Pretty much the same story for every town around Lafayette. The people who grow up and have a future, move away. You're left with a lower class who are dependent on the government & drugs, and upper class who own businesses' and rent houses.
