New Houses - why don't they have real fire places inside now?

Why is the new style NOT to have a wood-burning fireplace inside? I find this odd.

I wish my house didn't have a fireplace. An eyesore and waste IMO.

The original purpose of the fireplace was to heat the house, not for aesthetics..fireplaces are awesome, they are also a safety hazard and another expense to add to "keep up"

Because slapdick contractors would have to hire brickmasons to do it, putting their cheesy subdivision overbudget and behind schedule.

Just built a new house, went ventless because wood stinks and cleaning ashes sucks.

I have had real fireplaces in my last three houses. Went ventless gas at my camp and liked it a lot (no smell, no ashes, no buying wood, and it actually puts out decent heat). Putting one in the new house I am currently buidling.

By the way, the fake logs run anywhere between $400 - $1200+ so they aren't cheap.

Good move IMO. Yes, having a real fireplace is work, but I don't mind. We use ours a lot and we love it.

Cost, plus demand.
A vent free "fireplace" with no chimney is bound to cost thousands less to build.
No fireplace at all is even cheaper.

Plus with the open floor plans many homes have and a fire place forces many to put the TV above the mantle, which I dislike.

frankly, because it costs more to build a house with a wood burning fireplace due to the need for bricklayers to build it, etc...and the house is no more valuable than one without.

And unfortunately brick Mason's that actually know how to lay brick for a fireplace, which consists of fire brick with a brick veneer are a dying breed.

I have a full brick fireplace, I use it and love it. Probably a cord of wood a year goes through it.

As someone above said Americans are lazy.

Like someone said... money is the reason.

I have one of the EPA rated wood burning stoves but my house is weird (LEED certified green house). Yeah I know...gay.
