If you like history, it’s worth giving it a try. Something about his episodes are very engaging and addictive.

This is like saying not sure I wanna put that much time into so many pages of words about a book.

Podcasts are a more entertaining form of audiobooks.

Edit: though some are annoying and I can’t stand listening to them at all

Me too, but I also get why he can't turn them out like Empire, or the Rest is History.

That’s the thing though. I like reading, especially for information (as opposed to fiction). But having someone read to me is boring for me. I’d prolly feel the same way about audiobooks as podcasts.

And I’m not hating on them at all. I know a ton of people who love them and I can see their value. I’ll even watch clips of some (like Rogan clips, for example) and have watched one or two full ones. I guess it’s just that the medium isn’t really suited for me. I’d much rather read the information on my own. If that makes sense.

I mean...that's kind of what a podcast is.

That's like saying, "I like history, but a book? With sentences and sentences on paragraphs on PAGES!

And you're telling me there are whole CHAPTERS of these things? No thank you. If I can't have it in less than a minute then it's not for me."

ETA: This one is actually only 4 hours, almost a blitz episode for old Carlin

It would be closer to 2 if he just cut out all the ‘sorta’s’ and ‘right?’s. I enjoy the guy’s work but the verbal crutches are out of hand. It’s all I hear now, and it’s only gotten worse since the last episode. I’m just over 40 minutes in and he’s in the hundreds of ‘sorta’s’.

I know what a podcast is, you fricking dolt. That’s why I’m not a huge fan of them.

What an awful analogy. You are really, really bad at this.

This isn’t difficult to understand, so I’m not sure why you’re struggling so much with it. I’d rather consume my information myself (i.e. reading it) than listening to someone talk about it or having it read to me. But you know that already.

But I appreciate you hanging onto this for far too long and keeping it going just to stroke your ego and get attention, I guess.

I’m glad to hear this. Makes me know that I’m not interested in listening to someone speaking like that.

Prepare to be bitched at by fr33 for not wanting it to be longer though. He’s pretty pissy about it.

The gripe is that’s he’s becoming the George RR Martin of podcasters. He’s known for very long, engaging, heavily researched pods that are released sporadically, which was fine for most of his listeners, but now they’re getting shorter, fewer, and further between.

I also dislike podcasts, but Carlin is an exception for me. Supernova in the East about WWII Japan was great.

Unlike reading, I retained almost none of it but thoroughly enjoyed listening to his telling 1930-1940 Japan. Celtic Holocaust was also great.

Bingo.

I've had Carlin on in the background before but since I'm usually concentrating on something else I don't get much from it.

Books>>>podcasts

Same. I think college classes burned me out on that.

I don't know what to tell you. The man basically wrote the book on long form history podcasts and he's got a knack for storytelling

If that's not your cup of tea, then whatever.

I don't know what kind of podcast you'd be looking for that's Not someone talking.

But, if you want shorter, more lightweight, animated stuff (and this isn't a dig it's really good and I enjoy it) try Extra Credit

I get Carlin isn't for everyone. But he is very good. It's just dense

I listened to it today while at my model desk. As always Dan does a stellar job at telling a story. Only thing that sucks is now I have to wait however many months it takes for part III to come out.
