Baton Rouge group looks to acquire chunk of Plank Road property for express bus project

The East Baton Rouge Redevelopment Authority approved plans to acquire 34 parcels of land in the Plank Road corridor, which would be used as part of an effort to develop a $40 million to $50 million express bus route between LSU and north Baton Rouge.

Chris Tyson, executive director of the RDA, said the measure “begins the process” and that any transfer of property into the authority’s land bank would have to be approved by the East Baton Rouge Metro Council. The adjudicated properties are currently held by the city-parish. Tyson said the initial list, approved Thursday by RDA commissioners, could change. For example, the RDA may not be able to get a clear title to some of the land.

Is the goal of this to bring more crime to LSU?

There is already an LSU-airport Express route.

As part of the bus rapid transit program, Tyson said the RDA is pursing a redevelopment of Plank Road, which he said is a key part of the bus rapid transit corridor and a blighted area that needs help

LSU students avoid CATS routes that actually go where they want to go. I can’t imagine this being successful. CATS can’t even run the routes they have now and find enough riders to sustain themselves.

Wouldn’t want the criminals to have to take a roundabout way to victimize LSU students

Ironically, the bus will have to pass through a roundabout.

It works well to keep Livingston Parish off campus, but the bus drivers will eventually figure it out.

But seriously, if it was an express route, wouldn’t it take 110 instead of Plank?

Hoping that was sarcasm.

Scruffy will bet that never in the history of history has “lack of a bus route” been the reason why someone in NBR wasn’t able to attend LSU.

I bet Tyson was talking with one of the facilities services employees about how long it takes them to get to work via CATS’ current routes/transfers.

So logically the solution to solve this problem is a $50M project.
