Your boy Rusty, the closet democrat who registered as a Republican to get no challengers, will be the deciding vote to give sterling family the money. He’s just giving away tax dollars to criminals families. Your tax dollars at work.

One of his kids will blow all of it quicker than that.

He’s up on molestation charges IIRC and will be blowing it on lawyers.

I don't understand this. There is zero chance a 2m judgment would even be upheld at 5th.

It wouldn't go to the 5th circuit it is not a federal case. It would go to the 1st circuit in Baton Rouge.

Sucking this money out of an insurance policy, yea like that's not going to raise the premium of the policy and the bill goes to the taxpayers.

I don't disagree with your sentiment, but the money is from a reserve not a policy. But yeah, tax payers are still on the hook for the cost.

I know most would probably disagree- but I actually favor giving them a settlement.

The settlement should consist of, in lieu of monetary compensation, permission to place one (1) tasteful airbrush mural on the abandoned NBR building of their choice.

Solid analysis...

Except I forgot that there’s an additional $500k for Sterling’s personal injury, ie his conscious pain and suffering. That action is heritable by his heirs and they would split that up too. But, again, what’s that worth? $1,000,000 cap and whatever is awarded in loss of support from a guy with no income. Also, as I recall, there’s a statute in Louisiana that prohibits recovery for personal injury if the injured party is hurt in the commission of a felony.
