New Army renlistment incentive - 4 days free to play Grand Theft Auto 6

Soldiers at a Georgia combat engineer unit can get official time off to play the new “Grand Theft Auto” game when it drops this fall — if, and only if, they sign up for more years of service.
The offbeat incentive is being offered to soldiers by the commander of the 9th Brigade Engineer Battalion at Fort Stewart, Georgia, according to a memo circulated on social media that was confirmed by Army officials.

According to the memo signed by Lt. Col. Ryan Hodgson, the 9th Brigade Engineer Battalion commander, soldiers in the unit who reenlist between Aug. 1 and Nov. 14, 2026, will get a “special 4-day pass” that is “specifically designated to coincide with the highly anticipated release of the video game “Grand Theft Auto VI” (GTA 6).
The dates of the four-day pass will be coordinated between soldiers and their chain of command but it will align with the game’s official release, the memo states. According to Rockstar Games, the maker of GTA 6, the game will be available Nov. 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox gamers. The “Grand Theft Auto” franchise is among the most popular video game series of all time, with an open world format that combines mafia and crime-world-related missions with side quests of carjackings and causing general mayhem behind the wheel.
The offer illustrates an issue local commanders face in getting soldiers to reenlist. While Army-wide bonuses worth tens of thousands of dollars are often available for soldiers considering reenlisting, local commanders have few options they can offer to close the deal with soldiers in their formations. Though options like extra time off or chances to attend training schools are often used as enticements, sometimes local career counselors have to get a bit more creative.
Army officials said the engineer battalion’s new counselor pitched the idea to the command team as something that “speaks” to younger soldiers and that could kickstart the unit’s drive for its fiscal year 2027 reenlistment goals, which begin in October.

Sounds like they know their audience by trying this.

Does reelistment come with extra VA disability?

That CO missed a golden opportunity. Turn it into a tournament and the top five scorers get to go to Drone Operators School.
Everyone wins on that one.
Everyone wins on that one.

You'd also get unlimited free play if you don't enlist.

Getting them prepared for drone training.

You’re going to see a lot more of these marketing gimmicks with gta
You heard it here first (maybe) but gta vi will be significantly more woke than any previous gta and people are going to freak the frick out. Rockstar lost their talented people after red dead redemption 2

20 year olds don’t play video games where you live?

How do you figure? Like you get EXTRA wanted levels for stabbing trannies and minorities? I don't think that will hurt the numbers

Folks have been saying this since the first screenshots revealed a female protagonist 4-5 years ago. I imagine it will attract (like every GTA before it) all types looking to criticize it as too violent, too sexist, too racist, too homophobic, too gay, too .what ever...name your grievance.

quote:This looks like a much bigger deal than it is, and it doubtless only got coverage because the commander tied it to GTA 6. When soldiers reenlist, it is common for the local command to throw in a few three- or four-day passes. As the article itself explains, those are not the primary reenlistment benefits.
What on God's green earth are we doing anymore.
When I reenlisted in 2001, I received four four-day passes, three three-day passes, and various pieces of promotional Army swag, like a backpack and jacket.
But, more importantly, I got to choose my next duty station, Germany, and received a $40,000 cash bonus. My command even flew me to Kuwait so I could reenlist in a tax-free zone, making the bonus tax-free.
This is just one battalion commander getting creative with a routine local incentive.

The answer for me would have been bonuses
A certain amount of money would have gotten me to reenlist

quote:Sure, and cash bonuses are already available Army-wide. This battalion commander has no control over them because those incentives are established at the Department of the Army level. The four-day pass is not being offered instead of a bonus. It is simply a local commander throwing in an extra perk on top of whatever reenlistment incentives the soldier already qualifies for.

Man, come on. For days hundreds of comments have been made here about the Kennedy kids out on the water and just needing to suck it up. They knew what they signed up for etc etc. And a new counselor had a brainstorm with Army brass and now GAMING is a 4 day pass just to get enlisted quotas met? GMAFB. If a kid signed up for this pass, he should be on a short list to process.

quote:Jesus Christ, no one is reenlisting just to get a four-day pass. The CO simply thought this was a cool, fun way to spotlight his retention NCO’s work. The offer is basically, “If you reenlist, then on top of the real incentives available to you, such as cash, choice of duty station, job retraining, or a school option that lets you attend college for a semester, I’ll throw in a four-day pass timed with the GTA 6 release.”
And a new counselor had a brainstorm with Army brass and now GAMING is a 4 day pass just to get enlisted quotas met? GMAFB. If a kid signed up for this pass, he should be on a short list to process.
Predictably, people who have no idea how Army reenlistment works stripped away all that context so they could pretend soldiers are being asked to extend their service for several years in exchange for one long weekend. Some of you are so committed to being miserable that even a commander giving soldiers an extra perk becomes something to shite on.

That wouldn't work on me, but I bet it works on a whole bunch.
