I assume this trail is one way? Otherwise how the hell would someone back up until you could pass if you met at one of those narrow sections?

Saw this this morning. Not a smart move. And a gamecock at that.
It just looked like a whole lot of Ws
Stacked on top of each other.

The vehicle is stuck on one of the switchbacks above Bridal Veil Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls Powerplant, the sheriff’s office said, which is a one-way area on the roadway. The Kia got stuck at about three to four switchbacks past the falls when the driver managed to get his wheels off the side of the road, leaving the car unstable. The agency said that despite people in the area advising the South Carolina driver not to drive the Kia Telluride up the roadway, he persisted.

the baw who owns this truck doesn't have enough OT locked in at the local refinery to pay off the 10 year truck note and upgrades made at Alpha Customs to afford a trip out to Colorado

This is driver error not vehicle insufficiency...look at the pics...they just drove off the side of the trail
They also took a Jeep trail that is notoriously difficult in a soccer-mom SUV.
I also am pretty sure that in Colorado a red plate (which this Kia has) means it's a rental car.

In fairness, I have an F250 off road superduty with upgrades that make it more capable than f350 of the same year. Anyway, my Subaru Ascent is better at certain rough terrain than it is.
But yeah this was just a notoriously stupid SC driver.

Why do people drive this? Is there a fun camp ground or something, or is it just the feeling of risking death?

I’ve done this trail. No way an f250 is making the switchbacks section.
I did it in the rain. Talk about some extra pucker factor. By the time we slid around the rocks up top the switchbacks seemed like child's play.

The views are incredible and it's a nice little challenge to test your off road skills. It's not a difficult trail at all, but it gets your heart rate up. As I mentioned above we did it during a rain and when we came over the top to start the switchbacks the clouds were below us.

Holy shite, I have so many questions.
1) Does this mean he was driving UP the one way, which goes DOWN? If so, what an absolute a-hole.
2) If he WAS driving the proper way and going DOWN, then I amend that to say what a damn legend this guy is.
If he WAS going downhill the proper way to reach the point where he's near Bridal Veil Falls he'd have to have taken The Steps, which is sketchy in a proper offroader, let alone a stock Telluride. It's a fairly steep downhill with at on of off-camber stuff. There's basically a rock wall on your right and a cliff/creek/sudden death on your left.

I don't think this guy made it to the steps. That's the very top of the trail.

I think you're right, looking at the pics a little close I think he's going the wrong way. a-hole status confirmed.

We just got a 2025 Telluride. My wife likes it a lot.
Never thought we’d get a Kia either but it’s pretty nice honestly.
