There's no legitimate reason to be traveling with $100,000 of cash in your trunk. That doesn't mean the cops should be able to take it, but that's still shady as frick. What if his car is stolen, or he gets in a wreck and while he's in the hospital, the impound lot swipes it. Just dumb, or nefarious.

The federal government isn’t the next door neighbor that’s a cop or retired cop.
Just as an fyi, local LEO are just as bad if not worse.
Tax collection under the guise of law enforcement is an unfortunate reality for a lot of local LEO depts.

Or if a Nevada Highway Patrolman pulls you over for passing "too closely"...

Google the "Kansas Two-Step".

You didn't respond to my reasoning. You left all the context out of my quote. You must be one of those libertarian types.

You're dumb AF.
No offense.
No offense.

It’s not worth responding to.
There are many legitimate reasons, and perhaps this guy wasn’t the smartest, but you are obfuscating the issue.
This is the “she shouldn’t have worn that sexy dress” argument.

If the car was stolen arrest the driver. If stolen property was present find the thief and bring charges.
The fact that didn't happen and they went straight for the cash says everything you need to know here.

Yeah I remember that story. That’s so fricked up.

So they made up a crime and hit the jackpot all random?
In the video they are saying this is consistent with drug traffickers. All I’ve read is the article and it doesn’t prove much of anything other than this guy travels around state to state with a bunch of cash just sitting in the trunk.
I’m not buying the story I love my kids but I decided to leave them in another state and go live with my parents in Texas.

It might be a dumb idea, but that's not relevant in my opinion. It's his money. He can go set it on fire in the desert if he wants to.

It's theft under color of law, and it needs to be stopped.

Yeah so legally it's worse than that
Seized money has no rights, doesn't require counsel to be present, and is presumed guilty until proven innocent
It's up to YOU the property owner to prove you have legal possession and weren't doing anything illegal with it before the court gives it back to you.

They don't GAF about drugs.
They just want the money.
They just want the money.

Most likely. Having known a few LSP troopers in my time, it doesn’t take much for them to pull you over. Hispanic guy probably threw up one red flag. I’m pretty sure he was coming from out of state, so the out of state license plate probably threw up another. Then they follow him a bit. “Oh, he passed too closely to the 18 wheeler. He must be nervous and have something to hide.”
And the trooper’s mind is already made up that something fishy is going on, so it doesn’t take much for them to hit the siren.

I’m sure we’ll see a few “why was he driving with all that money” responses.
Don't really care about that but it was a pretty bad idea to tell the cop about the money.

Maybe he was going to pay cash for a Platinum F250. Something many on this board could relate to

Glad to hear it had a happy ending but I can't justify wearing a decent watch around BR/NOLA let alone carrying $100k in cash on a road trip. Talk about risky
