That's neither here nor there.
It's quite literally why he was asked Netflix but not YouTube to remove the show.

Just looks like a power flex to me, and he won this battle.

so you're not a man of your word. Nothing you sign is binding?

Chapelle didn't break his contract.

Of course, you would likely struggle to understand that.

Jesus christ dude. Yeah, I don't understand how contracts work. Either way, does the contract say he isn't allowed to ask for a network or streaming service to remove the content?

Saw him live around 1998. Don’t recall if he was funny or not but I do recall a fight breaking out in the crowd and the cops arresting people.

In his recent SNL opening monologue, he also started with a somber and very personal reflection of an ancestor that was born a slave and became a free man. Then compared himself to that ancestor due to this situation of not getting paid for his work.

I'm guessing most thought the joke fell flat but I liked how it was delivered.

Did he sign the contract willingly to take that sweet cash and retire, buy a farm, and wander around smoking weed and doing whatever the hell he felt like for years? Is that right?

Yep. He signed the contract that made him rich.

And you know what he could have done with all that money? Taken some of that money and started his own TV channel then give the “artist” of the shows a % of ownership.

I am not a Sienfeld fan, but I respect the fact that a lot of people really like him so just because you don't like them you cant really say they are overrated if they are very popular.

It's not like people are signing up for Netflix to watch Chapelle show. It's just something people who are already subscribers may cut on when bored and looking for something to put on. That being said, it's completely understandable that Netflix would take it off when Chapelle asked as they have a huge deal with him.

This isn't a big deal and the people outraged over it either way are frauds who never liked Chapelle and are gonna try to use this to justify that somehow

Love Dave, but he signed the contract. He’s far from the only artist/actor to get “screwed” on their front end work. The companies take a risk in signing them and handle promotion, and protect themselves by keeping the rights.

What doesn’t get a lot of play are the artists that don’t do squat that media companies lost money on.

He did. No one is denying that. But unless the contract said he wasn't allowed to ask a network or streaming service to remove the show then he didn't do anything to violate the contract.

If someone doesn't understand why netflix would remove Chapelle show that they probably paid a million or less for the current rights to to keep Chapelle who they have a $100+ million dollar deal with happy there's no point in trying to explain it

Sounds like a nice cause of action for Viacom.

Thank you. Also, I won't say its not at all about the money for Dave, but anyone that has followed his life post show knows he has always had a complicated relationship with his creative work on the show.
