Sounds like a nice cause of action for Viacom.

What? Netflix pays for the rights to the show. Highly doubt there is anything forcing them to leave it on their streaming service

This is the equivalent of MJ or Lebron or Kobe asking their team GM to sign XXX bad player, but friend of superstar, to the last spot on the roster.

Yes, the team doesn't have to do it, and there is no reason they should do it since there are probably tons of other better players that would provide more value to the team. But in the end you do it because it keeps your superstar happy. Netflix is doing this for one reason, to keep their superstar happy.

RIP funny Dave Chappelle. Going the way of George Carlin.

He did. No one is denying that. But unless the contract said he wasn't allowed to ask a network or streaming service to remove the show then he didn't do anything to violate the contract.

No he asked Netflix to quit paying Viacom because he doesn’t like the contract he signed.

It definitely shows low character.

And I love Dave.

No it’s the equivalent of mj telling ESPN to quit showing his playoff reruns because the nba gets the royalties and not him.

Not its not because MJ has no contract with ESPN and no leverage on them. While it might be unfortunate, for Netflix its just the cost of doing business with Dave right now.

Had no idea Dave wasn't getting paid from Chappelle show at all. He received bad advice and signed a bad deal back in the day?

It sucks cuz I didn't get to catch only but 2 episodes, but hey, when you've got leverage, use it wisely.

If someone doesn't understand why netflix would remove Chapelle show that they probably paid a million or less for the current rights to to keep Chapelle who they have a $100+ million dollar deal with happy there's no point in trying to explain it

This. He mentions this in his message, and sounds like very little love lost with him and HBO. But in his power move over Netflix, he is likely driving some viewers towards a company he dislikes vehemently.

Netflix has a big fat contract with Chapelle so I guess You gotta weight your options.

Dave Chappelle is the greatest living comedian. Watch his two most recent specials on Netflix if you think he's "too woke."

I don’t remember “crack addict” but I remember a bunch of stories about rehab and/or time in a mental ward.

Let’s just say that Dave’s parting from Comedy Central was very contentious and played out eerily like the last episode of season two of his show.

Dave’s money train was set to explode when season 3 hit. And then it didn’t happen due to Dave flipping out over celebrity and him being very unhappy with some of the material he’d done (racist pixie sketch being mentioned as a key “Lost Episodes” offender)

By bailing when he did, Dave had money but not near as much as he could have had given how hot the show was at that moment.
