quote:

Dave Chappelle just flexed his industry muscles big time -- he asked Netflix to pull his old Comedy Central sketch show from their service ... and they actually did.

The comedian broke the news Tuesday in a new stand-up segment he posted called 'Unforgiven' -- where, in front of a live audience, he talked about how he recently called up Netflix and told 'em how displeased he was that they were streaming 'Chappelle's Show.

quote:

In his act, Dave recounts how it went down. Long story short, he says he has no say, rights or rights to revenue over the show -- it belongs to Comedy Central, which belongs to Viacom -- and that it's perfectly legal for Viacom to do what it wants with it since he signed a deal years ago. But, he also asks ... is that right?

Apparently, Dave posed that question to Netflix as well -- and the honchos either agreed with him, or just wanted to keep him happy. Either way, "Chappelle's Show" is off the platform ... something they didn't legally have to do.

Netflix is woke so they were likely happy to remove his show but just didn’t know how to handle it

chapelle is a dumbass? I would have never guessed.

I saw him in person about 18 years ago and it was the worst stand up I have seen in person. He spent the entire time complaining about whites and especially rednecks. Most racist shite I have heard in person.

I can't remember who opened for him that night but that guy was pretty good.

Why would he want them taken down? They are hilarious.

Did he sign the contract willingly to take that sweet cash and retire, buy a farm, and wander around smoking weed and doing whatever the hell he felt like for years?

Is that right?

He doesn't like others profiting off of him without him getting a cut.

They would keep it if it had some gratuitous gay or tran material in there.

Chapelle has made enough off Netflix with his Specials deal that he could likely buy the rights to Chapelle's Show. Instead, it seems he is content to bitch about a legally binding agreement he willingly signed for which he was compensated. Seems like a bitch move.

Dammit, I had been watching it here and there and hadn't finished it yet.

The Rick James episode was as far as I got, early Season 2.

Didn't they pay him for several specials? Seems like if they want to keep him doing comedy specials for them it would make sense to remove old Chappelle show from their lineup.
