Anyone here have these in their house? They have really good reviews on Amazon and seem very easy to setup. Was looking for opinions here on whether you like them and if they are worth the additional expense. TIA

No.
They are cute, so they have that going for them. They aren't any better than some of the other models.

I have 2 Nests. I like them a lot. Very easy to install. You can get the same functionality for cheaper from Honeywell and others, but I like the Nest UI and look. Worth it to me, but I'm not too frugal.

I have Nest. It is nice. Can control remotely. Previous thermometer was a cheaply. Also, can lock Nest so pesky in-laws can't change it when their cold.

I bought two of the new ones over the weekend and they were $200 each. I looked online at other brands and they were roughly the same cost. The nest Protect is a little more expensive than other smoke detectors at $100 a piece, especially considering I need 4 or 5 of them. Still not horrible considering most conventional smoke and carbon monoxide systems run $50 each.

I have one and not a fan at all. Although their customer service is top notch.

I have the nest. It works well. It probably isn't better than other models. The setup was simple and the interface of the app is easy to use. A plus for me is having nest cams on the same app. I can't comment on the nest protect. I have the kidde smoke & co wireless synced with my Wink Hub.

I have the Honeywell one that was cheaper. I really like it. I'm not much on programming but I do like being able to turn the AC down before I get to the house in the summer.

being able to turn the temp up or down from my bed has made the Nest worth every penny.

I just installed a Nest a few weeks ago.
Got it because the utility company (LUS) was selling them for $80
It's pretty sweet.
I mainly like that I can change the thermostat without getting out of bed

I have seen it as several rent houses I have stayed at on vacation and I can see how that would be useful in keeping the costs down and being able to control it without having to go there. But I didn't like how I kept having to fight to keep it the temp I wanted because it was pre-programmed at a certain temp and it would override the manual setting. (Again, I know this would not be the case if it was mine but still)

There are models you can get for a better price but I definitely think it is worth the money and convenience.

Amazon Touchscreen WiFi Honeywell $80
This is all you need.
A rock solid performer with about a billion installed in commercial applications around the world.
I've bought and installed 6 from the MS World guy on Amazon and even though they say "used" they are OEM units he gets as overflow stock when a company opts for a different unit and is identical to the consumer one.
brand new.
connect the wires and mount on the wall and enjoy.
you couldnt pay me to spend $200+ on nest. its a wall thermostat, not a fancy round animated color LED screen to pose for friends. lol

I have a nest on our main level and installed in myself in about 30 min. Pretty cool but I wouldn't say its worth the upgrade on its own. I just wanted one cause it looks slick.
I did use it to check the power company one month because I thought they had over billed us. You can go and analyze you H/C usage on the thing. Probably more features than I use. Can adjust it and program from your phone if you are out of town or really lazy.

I have the Honeywell wifi thermostat. Absolutely love it.
FYI, if you are going to install this yourself, make sure you verify what type of system you have and if your wiring setup matches the instructions.
I had trouble installing mine at first because I needed to route a 5th wire with 24Vac to power the display. My AC unit didn't have the nice wiring panel illustrated on the instructions so it took some time reading the schematic

I have one and it WAS great. Now for some reason, the heater won't turn off unless I turn it back to COOL and then wait for the condenser to come on outside. Apparently I'm missing some wire. Haven't had much time to investigate but it's a known issue according to their website.

I have the Honeywell with the color screen. One of my favorite things I ever bought. Like someone said, it's great to be able to adjust the temp from the sofa or the bed or from out of the house.

The first time I wired it, I had the same issue. I had to run a new "C" wire and connect it directly to the 24v transformer in my unit.

problem solved (i've done like 8 of these so i can tell you more than likely your 'c' wire is there but pigtailed to the thermostat wire insulation and not connected at the other end to the HVAC)
if that's the case, its about a 5 second job (once you locate the circuit board) to attach the 'c' wire at the furnace or if its all-in-one, open the panel outside and connect it.
if its literally not there at all (common with older systems), this $25 wonder will take that 5 second job and turn it into about a 2 minute job.
venstar add-a-wire
Bonus: you need the c wire for NEST as well so if you don't have one, you will need this kit regardless of whether you buy a honeywell or nest. the simple explanation is that it needs to have constant power because it has to respond via wifi to your cell phone when you want to control it.
a battery would work but its a bigger hassle when it starts going out and you bang your head against the wall because your shitty thermostat isn't working right.
honeywell and nest said 'frick that' and make you wire it the right way so you won't have that problem.
and yes, they both (at least honeywell) have a battery backup for short power outages as well.
I actually have an extra one I'd sell to an OTer for $20 or you can follow that link above and get one for around $25.

Nest is the awesome. saves you money and you can turn the heat/ac on right before you get home from work.
