You say that until you take a wrong turn and end up sweating bullets and fearing for your life. Theres a reason new orleans has led per capita murder rates so many years in the last few decades. Its a total shitshow, ill get wasted at my house instead thank you very much

You probably went to Bourbon street and think that's New Orleans

It's not just southerners.

Most of the people I know who dislike NO are Northerners. They find it too dirty and too disorderly. They are uncomfortable with casual affection. Several Northern females I've known who lived in NOLA got very uneasy and even offended when they are called "dawlin" or "Sweetie" by strangers, especially males.

Southerners are usually okay with those things.

And ate at Bubba Gumps and Mullates for some of that great "cajun food".

Right, but this can be mitigated if you don't have kids.

At least you know the right caveat here.

I do unless, I absolutely have to go there. Feel the same way about the South Shore in general.

People who live in NOLA will laugh this off, but deep inside, even if they aren't admitting it to themselves, they know it is true.

When you move out of Orleans Parish, even if it is to Metairie or some other nearby suburb, it feels like a weight is lifted off of you that you didnt even know was there. Regardless of kids.

Vising NOLA on occasion, like once every five to seven years, is okay. Other than that, the only reasons I cross the lake is 1.) The airport; 2.) World War II Museum; 3.) World War II air show.

I moved to Lafayette, but I never felt unsafe in New Orleans (I probably should have). At the same time I'm not stupid and realized that there was crime occurring around me.

Definitely didn't feel a weight lifted when moving away, though.

Friend,

I certainly did not. Chicago is a boring, grossly uninteresting place that has no history and no citizens of any cultural prominence. Chicago wouldn’t make a Top 100 list of great American cities.

I like Nola but don't understand why so much crime is allowed to happen there.

Nola is similar to Mogadishu. If that’s your thing knock yourself out.
