Had anyone used Car Max to buy their vehicle? Was pricing fair, any other companies to look at selling it with?

You can go to their website and get a quote right now. Then compare with other offers.
Decide for yourself.
Decide for yourself.

Fair if you want to get ripped off relative to basically any other way to get rid of it. You pay for convenience. They will be thousands below what you can get either trading elsewhere or selling yourself. but you'll get money today.

Go to KBB.com and get a cash offer, it will be better than what car max offers

Sold two cars there last year. One was year old pilot got great money for it other was old van got way more then expected.
Put in vin and received an offer then went up and within an hour had a check.
Worth an hours time don’t go weekend if can help it. Can get an appointment to speed things up.
Offered more then dealership but if buying from dealer then factor in savings in tax on next car to decide.

With out doing a trade I wonder if selling to a dealership would be the better route.

I’ve had nothing but good experiences with Carmax. No beating around the bush and good selection of vehicles.

check the online quotes between them, vroom and carvana and even type them in a couple times a few days apart. They do change for the better sometimes. We ended up using carvana and it was easy

Get the KBB value first, then explore options and get multiple offers from dealers, Carmax, Carvana, list yourself, etc.
Obviously make sure your title is clean and you have it to hand over during the transaction.

I didn’t have time to deal with morons from the typical owner to buyer marketplaces.
Car Max gave me a ridiculous (good) offer for my car early this summer. I sprinted out of there with my check. Easy process. Took a couple hours but it was a busy Saturday.
That being said, everyone’s situation is different.

When the madness started they were in line with the other services like carvana.
I ended up just trading in with the dealer because there was only $100 diff and it lowered my taxes on the new vehicle.
But dealers were offering high $ too because they didn’t have shite on their lots.

I have used CarMax twice to buy my car. Each time they came in a couple thousand under private sell.
You will not get private sell $$$, but it will go quick and easy in the same day.
Depends on what your time is worth.

CarMax is great. I will never go through a traditional dealer again. Ever.

CarMax, Carvana, Vroom and KBB Instant Cash Offer.
KBB sends a message to local dealers, so be prepared for phone calls from douche bag sales managers, but I sold my F-150 this way April 2021. 1 dealer offered $20, 2 dealers offered $24,500, so I sold it to the Jeep dealership since that's what I was shopping for. Signed the title and they gave me a check. The only reason it took a little longer is because USAA never released the lien when I paid it off 4 years ago, so I had to go round and round with them to get it figured out. I think the Jeep dealership sold it before they even got the title from me

My experience Summer 2021: I had CarMax, a Toyota dealership, and a Subaru dealership give me a quote on a used car. All 3 were within $100 of each other.
One advantage of trading it in where you buy the new vehicle is that the value of the trade in is deducted from the price of the new car pre-tax so it reduces your sales tax on the new car. At least, that’s how it’s done in Texas.

Checked with them on a van I no longer needed. It was in great shape and booked on NADA and KBB beteen $8500-$9000. I was offered $1200 by Carmax. I showed them the copies that I had printed and they grumbled something about making a profit, or a living, and I left.
They are 1960's used car salesmen con artists. I look forward to you reporting back once you get your insult/offer.
