As a two-year-old, Menow won the 1937 Champagne Stakes in September, although most attention was given to the favorite Skylarking who had to be put down after his leg snapped. Nope, I knew the crapshooter personally, and her old man. I also knew the trainer personally. They are all dead now, and I am old as dirt but must of my youth was a barn rat working Thoroughbreds and Jugheads.

The old Keeneland Kitchen (torn down long ago to build the new sales pavilion) was a magical place to grow into a man. Some of the best grub and best conversations in my life were there.
