Dr. Thiess - UAB

Dr. Thiess

Performed thoracic spine surgery on a family member recently. Dr. Andrews referred family member to Dr. Thiess...said he was the best.

Family member is back at work now. Surgery went perfectly.

Depends on a bunch of factors and what type of fracture. Was it a compression fracture ?

Pretty sure a crushed vertebrae won’t get better without fusion/disc replacement.

I had surgery and it changed my life until my ex found out and got my voodoo doll back out for another spinal issue.

It’s a stable fracture. As I understand only a cement injection procedure could be used to help pain, but would not effect long term prognosis either way.

Tiger Woods completed one of the most improbable comebacks in sports about a year after spinal fusion surgery. Pick up some golf clubs, baw.

A kyphoplasty or vertebroplasty... if you get the procedure done, the severe pain should go away quicker but this isn’t a guarantee. The fracture should heal over a few months with a brace regardless. It’s up to you but for younger people I’d usually suggest the procedure unless the pain is mild.

Tried my best to shake it off after I regained consciousness from the fall. After twenty minutes of trying to crawl in truck I called ambulance. Truly felt like a failure.

bullshite. I had a burst fracture of mine at age 19 with spinal fusion surgery and have recovered amazingly, in fact, I was recovered within a year and back to bodybuilding.

Also, avoid chiropractors.

I think most would know not have a fractured vertebra adjusted lol. You can add PTs and DOs who do manipulation as well.

My sister in law fractured her L1 while at our house and she ended having to sleep on a bed in my living room for a few weeks after getting out of the hospital.
She was 70% better in 3-4 months but took up to a year to get all the way back.

I herniated L4-5 (squatting) with nerve root impingement on MRI. Numbness into my foot and increibke pain. Saw an ortho and neurosurgeon who recommended against surgery. Took well over a year to get to about 80% improvement. Still don't do lower body exercises but some of it may be mental. Good luck.

I had eleven vertebral compression fractures in the Spring/Summer of 2010 due to taking large, oral doses of steroids (Prednisone ~60mg/day) after I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease in late 2009. I had ~four Vertebroplasty sessions performed over a six month period (Spring/Summer 2010) that repaired all eleven of the vertebral compression fractures. It's a minimally invasive procedure that provided me immediate relief after each Vertebroplasty session. I had the Vertebroplasty procedures performed at the main Ochsner Clinic on Jefferson Highway by Dr James Milburn . I have not had any side effects, etc over the past 10+ years and I would recommend the Vertebroplasty procedure to anyone that has a vertebral compression fracture and needs immediate relief. Best of luck!
