Buy a $40 bat. Sink the rest...if you must...into a decent coach/side lessons.

At 8 years old, he could be an all-star for a few years until the other kids catch-up to him at 12 or 13. Don't let the bat do the work at 8. Get him fundamental knowledge, play catch with him, and have fun watching him grow up.

Don't over pay for a bat at 8 years old. Avoid the peer pressure from the other dads.

Worth for value. Last years marucci hex alloy or cat6 if you feel like shelling out a little more.

Hex alloy all the way at that age. 27/17

Love the Easton S3 bats. Look for previous year's models on Ebay, as they will be cheap. Last year's model is $60

The grip feels great and it has pop. There's only one problem, you can't rotate the barrel due to the grip. We went through 3 in one INDOOR BP session a couple years ago. Zero durability.

Local Marucci team in that age bracket hit 11 home runs this weekend swinging Marucci exclusively. Must be hot.

I believe they were playing at the Marucci/Traction complex? Short fences there, but still impressive.

Marucci does put out a pretty good bat in the CAT 6, chose not to buy that one this year and stick with the Easton bat. My son swung a 26/16 last year and went up to a 27/17 this year. If I find he's not getting the bat around quick enough I make him still use the 26...still adjusting to it, but cant go wrong getting Easton. Marucci is great as well. Other bats..very meh, but this is only coach pitch...and next year it will change some with kid pitch

Any advice on a bat for a 7 Yo moving from tee ball to machine pitch in a pony league? What barrel size do I need?

We had totally moved on to "z" core by the time I was in high school. But I remember c-core well.

My fist big boy bat when we moved to the -3 rules. I still remember waiting for the UPS truck to show up on Good Friday. Didn't have tracking like we have now and had no clue if they would deliver on a "holiday". Weird things you remember. Is TPX even a player anymore?

Red Stick has 2015 bats on sale for 50% off. Just bought my son the Easton Mako 2 3/4 Big Barrel for $175. He plays in David Delucci's D2 Baseball League 13-14 age division. It's a if you bring it you can swing it league.

Also, if you go to Marucci's Hitter's House batting cages on Siegen you can test all of their bats. it costs $2.50 for 18 machine pitched balls.

Just left Marucci. They have a bunch of last year's models new in wrappers for $50. Marucci Elites, Marucci One, etc.

My son is going into his second year using a Marucci elite (2 year old model). He likes it.

Got a good deal on it last year from justbats.com

Lol if an 8 year old is wearing out a bat it must suck, come on guys. That would mean the coach would break it doing fly outs in practice.

Here’s the real answer OP given I haven’t played in years; you want the smallest bat possible. It’s all about bat speed and bat control right now and even the strongest 8 year old doesn’t have either at an elite level. The third factor though is confidence, ideally they are confident in a smaller bat. But if they need the big dog for it then that can be the deciding factor.

Generally speaking your better contact hitters use smaller bats, power guys use the big dogs, and the shite heads that and think they look good hitting monster pop ups or striking out use big bats.
