At 8, length/weight is more important than anything else. Get a bat that he can swing, otherwise, it'll never leave his shoulder.

Buy used bats now, and when he's 10 or so, go nuts.

He will outgrow a bat every season, probably.

Bat Selection Vid

The first two minutes or so covers what you need to know as far as size and weight. As far as bats go price wise at that age he'll be fine with a $80 Slugger/Easton/Marucci/Demarini from Academy. When he gets older is when I'd invest in the better gear because different bats do have different stiffness levels and noticeable amounts of "pop" between them.

If he us pretty decent and can use usssa bat get him a 26/16 or 27/17 cat9. Eliminates hand sting. Last years Rawlings Velo can be had pretty cheap

If USA bat don’t worry about it. Get him anything.

Don’t get a composite

The last guy that hit a home run, use that bat.

At least that was standard procedure when I was in little league.

My family has used them forever. They are in Marietta, Ga. and later when you come to perfect game here worth a trip.

Tell your wife to set up a meeting between her and the coach to discuss bats.

I'm older than dirt. Do bats still come with MLB players' names on them? Get the one from his favorite player.

If he doesn’t have an endorsement deal by now, it probably doesn’t matter.
