There should be a formula for how much you pay for a plane ticket.
You pay by the weight of your bag and any extra bags your bring, why shouldn’t you pay for extra seats and the lard you have packed on for the last 30 years of your life and the extra fuel that the 400 extra pounds is costing the airline.
something like
$0.50 x weight x width of body / seat width
If you are twice as wide as your seat you pay for two seats at the price of your weight.
We need to bring back fat shaming because not only are they overlapping seats on planes and at sporting events, they are the main cause of our skyrocketing healthcare cost.

Would need some sort of rounding function for the “width of body / seat width” part of the formula. Once that formula gets a certain factor over 1 should require you to purchase a 2nd seat.

New plan: because the weight of the cargo is linked to the fuel efficiency of the flight, and therefore the overall cost of the flight, in the same way we charge people more if they want to bring on more/heavier bags, let's start charging passengers as a function of both weight and physical volume.
