Nearly 100 drivers following Google Maps detour get stuck in muddy Colorado field

DENVER – Technology isn’t always foolproof, as about 100 Colorado drivers learned when Google Maps offered them a supposedly quick way out of a traffic jam.
A crash on Peña Boulevard, a road leading to Denver International Airport, prompted the app to take drivers on a detour on Sunday.
But it was too good to be true.
The alternate route took drivers down a dirt road that rain had turned into a muddy mess, and cars started sliding around.
Some vehicles couldn’t make it through the mud, and about 100 others became trapped behind them.

And also not reported nearly 99/100 of those drivers were high as shite.

Happened to me in Arizona. It took me down some dirt road that was basically a ditch in the middle of Tuscon, in a rental car.

I had to take somebody to DIA Sunday morning. That actually could have been me.

Happened to me before using Garmin as well. Decided to try it on the way home to La for a weekend, just to check it out. It had me take a new road, cool, a shortcut I never knew. Turn here, turn here, turn there. It got more and more sketchy as we went along, dudes on porches with no shirts and cars in the yard. Road went from paved, to gravel, to a wooden bridge, to dirt, then to grass. It all ended when we came up to a locked gate.

Does NO ONE even look at a map or have any general idea of any area anymore??
They are that dependent on a computer map to get anywhere?? You should have some idea where you are and pay a little attention...........right???
Idiots!

I had a GPS direct me down a dry creek bed once, I however, found an alternate route because my brain functions normally which is more than I can say for these poor bastids.

Exactly, do you not zoom out and scroll around it to get a general idea of what roads you're going down and turns you take. I never just blindly follow the GPS.
