I don't have a problem with them charging what they need to maintain the parks but Mt Rainier was $20 just 5 years ago and it was beautifully maintained.

On the bright side it will cut down on some of the rifraf but I'm not convinced a hike from $20 to $70 over a 5 year period is wholly justified.

Fine with me, our national parks are a treasure we need to preserve for our future generations

I feel like my taxes have already paid way more than $70.

Something tells me they could trim the fat somewhere and not charge anyone anything.

The gov could just take 1 billion off the 600 billion it spends on defense contractors to cover costs .. nevermind, that's just ridiculous, 599 billion could never cover the defense costs

Or how about the billions we waste on shite that is NOT the federal government's responsibility in the Constitution - like everything except foreign policy, national defense and regulating interstate commerce?

Privatize the national parks if they can't afford to run them. Boom.

Problem solved. 'Murica. frick yeah.

The Federal Governments activity in land use is just a demise of the market economy and steps towards more government control. Road to socialism.

I get a free annual pass for the military, but I would pay this if I didn't have the pass.

There were more foreigners at the grand canyon than you see at disney world when we went.

What are the plans for use of the increased funds?
More government waste, or actual improvement to the parks?

For example, there was a mudslide on CA Route 140 just to the West of Yosemite NP.
In order to open the road up quickly enough, they threw up a "temporary" bridge across the Merced River to go around the slide that covered the original highway.

It's still in use, and the slide was about 10 years ago.

I agree with this, rights should be certain, privileges, not so much

Not so much with this, you really think we should privatize national parks? How long until half of it is commercial real estate?!

That slide was 10 years ago? Went to Yosemite earlier this year and thought that it was a recent slide. That is the longest stop light I've ever waited in.

I support, it's not that much and it's multi day and the park service needs the funds.
The smokies by law have to stay free though. It's the deal struck with tenn and nc.

Hand 'em some mouse ears on the way in and they'll think it's a bargain.
