A friend was telling me he went to mass last night. He and his family are one that only go during the major events.. Christmas, Easter. maybe one time during the summer. And the priest said something like "Tonight we welcome everyone, including those who only attend a few times a year. We were operating with a negative balance at one point in the year, so while you are here throw some shuckles in the collection plate".

Glad I missed it.
I remember the first time I went into that Cathedral. The elderly lady at the door reminded me of my Grandmother in a very nice way.
I can only imagin who fill that niche nowadays.

Priests could marry for the first 1000+ years of Christianity. And none of those priests were American.

I didn’t see a woman in the pulpit until college when I went to a Mormon church with a buddy. He leaned over and said, ‘now I know why women shouldn’t preach. I can see her nipples.’
She was giving a talk as any active adult member of the congregation is allowed to do. She was not the “minister” of the congregation, conducting the service. That role must be filled by a man (by Mormon religious law and by common sense).

The nipple sighting, that’s not particularly a commonplace occurrence in a Mormon Church church service setting. Congrats on a rare Bingo Card item that not many people have.

To the OP: One of my kids works less than a mile from the National Cathedral; nice place to visit.

I don't have a problem with a woman priest, minister, preacher, whatever you want to call it.

Jesud named 12 Apostles. None were women.

That isn’t an argument for ordaining women. Some of the most respected people/Saints throughout Church history are women, and none of them have been or ever will be priests.

The Catholic Church has its problems with modernization, but thankfully this ain't one of em. Thankfully the younger generations can see the negative effects of Vatican II and are pushing to return to traditions, not more straying from teachings.
If only the USCCB would get on board - it's my hope Pope Leo XIV will slap their hands from being so drunk on the fed government treasury teats.

Yes. You don't get to cherry pick from Scripture what you like and don't.
Why? That's how they chose what was in the Bible and what wasn't.

In your church do you allow women to sing songs or in the choir?

They still can in the eastern rites.

I went to a Catholic Mass and some lady was up there doing some kind of reading. How come none of you told her to sit down and shut up?

Paul named a female apostle. That’s way closer to the source then a church today.

Because she's not up there preaching abortion, gay marriage, transgenderism, or mutilating kids like what's being taught in protestant churches.

Great question. This silence relates to authoritative teaching or disruptive speech. It does not apply to functions of laity in the Mass such as readings and singing.

ETA: Laity or lay people are not ordained but can be men or women and help out with some of the administrative parts of Mass, following the script not preaching or speaking with authority.

Of course not. Because it would force them to perform mental gymnastics to justify their use of the Bible to enact personal desires.

The difference is it’s from multiple different accounts. People from different countries of different professions, sins, and education.

So you’d have to have some major collusion.

If you don’t it’s interesting how the stories intertwine no?

Not to mention Paul, that’s a whole other story.

It doesn't have to be this way, brother. Catholicism would be a familiar switch. Come home.

She was serving as a Lector. She wasn’t serving in an ordained position, such as Priest or Deacon. Laypeople can serve various roles- lectors, sacristan, Eucharistic ministers etc
