Jesus. That’s fricking terrible . Prayers for them and that school community. Super sad.

If guns were the problem, our school systems should have been running red with blood the entire 20th century, especially prior to gun control laws of 1968, 1986, 1990, and 1993.
But they weren't. And you ignore this fact.

People having guns is not a black and white reason why people choose to shoot up a school. People crazy enough to do something like that will find the tools to do what they want. It's not like it's easier to get guns now than it used to be just because there's more of them. There's just more people buying them. For instance, not too terribly long ago, you could go into a walmart and buy a gun pretty damn easily.

At some point we really need to do something about these school shootings.

Maybe we should actually address the parenting and societal issues that are creating these little psychopaths, and quit pretending that inanimate objects are the root cause.

We by far have more guns per citizen than any other nation by almost a 2:1 ratio with 2nd place.
There is no way to know how many guns were bought in the early to mid 90's because the Brady law did not go into effect until 1993 when background checks became mandatory.
If you want to give up your rights as an American citizen because of the action of others so be it. Not me!

The problem is the decency and compassion not translating to anything meaningful to crack down on these shootings.

I don't think Washington can fix this problem.

What about the hundreds of shootings that occur in our inner cities every single night?
When are we going to crack down on those?

Utopians falsely believe if we just have more laws we can make people moral and good citizens..

Looks like all our thoughts and prayers don’t really do much of anything. Such a tragedy that will get lost in the news cycle by next week.

It boggles my mind when people, in the immediate aftermath of these now all too common school shootings, immediately jump to the gun control agenda as though guns are a recent invention that simply did not exist before the mid-to-late 1990s.
Guns have not changed so they’re not the problem. We’ve changed as society. If we’re genuinely looking for answers to the school shootings, we need to look at what’s changed in the past roughly 30 years and how to reverse that change.
The question though, are we, as a society, interested in solving school shootings or are we interested in a political agenda?
You're correct- and I believe on the right track.
We would bring rifles and shotguns to school in the fall back in the 80s to go hunting when school let out. This was common- and nothing like this ever happened.
Something has changed in the heads of some of these kids to make them act out this way. Does the "information age" play a role? Certain medications? I certainly don't have the answers and can only speculate.
I only know that guns have always been present- always. And they were much easier to purchase in those days from a dealer without a "background check".
This behavior? Not even close.
