Judgment Day.
For those of you who don't know, the Artemis program (named after the sister of Apollo), will be returning mankind to the moon in preparation for manned missions to Mars. Artemis I is the first flight (and an unmanned test of the vehicle) that will orbit the moon while ground controllers monitor the spacecraft for glitches.
The test flight is scheduled to last between 26-42 days. Artemis 2 will be the first crewed space flight that will orbit the moon (but not land) sometime in 2024. That will be the objective of Artemis 3 (planned 2025).

When a colony gets there, something will happen to cause an extinction event on earth and it all unfolds before their eyes..
Then there this colony will be, the last remnants of earthlings and mankind.

I imagine a trip to Mars would take just a few days longer of a journey to the moon

By the time Artemis gets to Mars, Musk will have hyperdrive for SpaceX.

Can we not have that nonsense in some of these threads please?
They can start their own threads.
Let’s discuss the actual OP.

The premise is what I thought would have been done with the space program, although long ago.

How far behind is Artemis?
Someone should post a side-by-side of the Apollo and Artemis timelines.

Artemis doesn’t have the benefit of being able to use 4% of the total federal budget like Apollo did.

Just wait for something to go suspiciously awry and it get canceled. I doubt they'll do all the fakery this day and age. But if so it'll be hilarious. Just watch and see.

Wish the launch was on a weekend I can take my kids to watch it

3 f@cking flights to land someone. Same ol tired nasa.
Those first two flights are waste. Could at least drop cargo. It cost a lot to fly to the moon nasa.

Take your kids anyway.
Teachers have always given us the blessing.
We goto launches all the time and do our best to hit the important ones like Falcon Heavy, Crew Demo 1, Demo 2, etc.
