Man, I just got in a good hunting lease too.

Hitting water is the worst case scenario. Based on the projected impact line our best bet would be it landing in sub-Saharan Africa or the Amazon.
A crater about a half mile wide but no tsunami and limited population.

Something like 10% of the world’s population lives awfully close to the eastern edge of that impact line.
I wonder how far in advance we would really know where it was going to hit. Would all of Calcutta need to skiddadle in 48 hours.

I am not joking at all
I remember when I was a child maybe 30 years ago I remember some local news teaser spot like “more after the Game!” type cut in mentioned
“Scientists monitor a potential earth ending asteroid set to pass close to Earth near the year 2024” (which is why I think this asteroids name is 2024)
I distinctly remember that and would think about it ever so frequently

The “impact line.” Can we really know that this far out? Could they move people away from it once they have a better prediction?

That's awesome.

1/43=.02
So its gone from 1% to 2%.
I fricking hate that they made me do the math.

So an asteroid colliding with Earth has better odds than the Saints winning the Super Bowl next year?

You didn't do the math, you estimated.
You could have done that by thinking 1/100 is 1%, and 1/43 is close to 1/50 which is 2%, so it increased by a little more than a percentage point to just over 2%

Is it wrong to kinda hope it hits us? Earth needs a reset.

1/40 is absolutely massive on the scale of the universe.

Just back from a Costco run after becoming aware of apparent paper plate daily use acceptance by the general public, I’ll be stocked up for trashy meals through the apocalypse.
