Customary for the driver going uphill yield to the fella coming downhill?

Or do we stick to the old tried and true 19th century pioneer way and let the Baw’s horses coming up hill keep their momentum?

Inside, toward the hill, person gets over and yields…the outside person, closest to the drop off, slowly passes.

We usually rent a cabin in the mountains around gatlingburg every other year. 3 years ago it was at the top of a mountain with 3 other cabins. The road going up was barely wide enough for my truck thank god we never meet another renter while traversing the road

I absolutely love mountain passes, and mountain roads. I just drove the Teton Pass about 7 times over the course of 4 days this past summer.

But one road that really did make me sweat was an 8 mile dirt/gravel road that went up to Blue Mountain in Olympic National Park/Port Angeles, WA. That road was barely big enough to fit two cars on, and one side was a straight drop off to your probable death. It winded around and around up the mountain, and you could absolutely not see what was coming around the winds and corners of the road. You had to come to a crawl coming around corners to make sure a car wasn't coming down too fast to not see you.

The hike/views at the top were definitely worth it, but man, I about had a panic attack.

Old school folks honked their horns before going around a bend like that to alert folks on horseback or on foot that you were coming in your fancy vehicle.

This road - Oh my God road

Used to be the scariest road in America. When I was growing up in Colorado we drive it often. They’ve “safened” it over the years. In the 70s there were sections wear the drop off side didn’t have full tires on it. You would have to have someone get out and guide you pretty much inch by inch.

Running into someone on the road meant some serious backing up. Loved that road.

There're up and down There're curves. There're paved roads and there're loose gravel. All can scare you. Some cars and their drivers shouldn't take on roads they don't know they can handle.

We have one state road north of us with some curves on a fairly steep slope. I've described it as a most excellent place to check your own brake lights as you come out of the curve going down hill. At least you don't pass 18 wheelers there, ever.

If I'm in my truck, you better yield. If I'm in my car, I better yield.

Just drive off the road; it'll be faster.

I wish more folks, whom have no business driving those roads, would stay home.

The last stretch of Engineer Pass up from Silverton makes you not want to meet anyone.
