Huh? I didn't mischaracterize where you live just to shite on it.

Do people in Katy Texas or Arlington Texas tell people from Montana that they're from Katy or Arlington or do they tell them they're from the Houston and Dallas area?
The latter but that's because places like Arlington suck. That's your Dave and Buster's, cookie cutter mcmansions, and strip malls.

And I've been on record saying Dallas isn't a place to vacation. It's a place to live
Fair enough.
I actually agree in Reverse for New Orleans. As tourists used to always tell me growing up there, "it's a great place to visit but I wouldn't want to live here." That is true in every sense. It's just not a city for everybody. It's a great city for young single people, bohemian hippies and people with a high tolerance for bullshite and a big love for social life.
I can have Texas style living on the NorthShore but still be close enough to New Orleans to give my kids the kind of experiences I loved as a kid. When you end up in a place like Cleveland Ohio or Dallas Texas, no matter which direction you go it's all the same. Variety is the key to life so if you're not going to live in or near a fun city like San Francisco, New York or New Orleans or live in a geographical paradise like the Pacific Northwest, the Rockies or California, then you're really not living.

If you start in the city center, I agree. The burbs all run together. The city itself has plenty of culture and charm to it.

I was in new orleans 3 times last year as well as SF and Napa. Going to both again this year plus Boston. DFW/Love have direct flights almost anywhere for cheap since AA and Southwest are HQd here.

I wouldn't call any of those places big enough to be a city other than Boise, but I like your train of thought.
OP didn't really specify big cities. I'm not really a big city guy anymore. That appealed to me in my 20s. Not so much in my 40s.

I agree but that's pretty much the case for every major city and older small town. If you're going to do culture and charm you might as well go all the way. I'm sorry but Deep Ellum is not the Marigny and never will be. Culture is developed over hundreds of years through the generations. Dallas was barely a city a hundred years ago. New Orleans is a 300 year old former French-Spanish Caribbean-influenced port city. You can't replicate that in Middle America.

You can have no state income tax, dozens of Fortune 500 HQ's, high end restaurants, etc, etc in covington?
Bold statement.

So I was right in that it all boils down to "it's not culture since it's not New Orleans"

The thing you New Orleans or die idiots don't understand is that no one disagrees with you about the culture. There are great and unique restaurants and things like Mardi Gras and the shotgun houses. They are completely unique to NOLA.
They are also mixed in with project housing, crime ridden, on pot hole infested streets, and the city is run by incompetent crooks. I'll choose to live somewhere where I can make more money, pay less taxes, and not have to worry about getting robbed.ill just fly to New Orleans for $250 whenever I want to.

You do know that Covington is about an hour from New Orleans right? It takes two and a half hours just to drive across DFW and that's without traffic.
Are you comparing Texas restaurants to New Orleans restaurants? C'mon man.
I've lived in Texas. In fact, I lived in the coolest city in Texas and it just didn't have the same vibe that New Orleans did. I've been to tons of little towns all across Texas. They are nothing compared to the small towns in Louisiana. Brenham Texas is not Abita Springs, Giddings Texas is not Madisonville, Vidor Texas it's not Covington, Killeen Texas is not Mandeville.
