Seems like the state has always been known for corrupt politicians. Some even doing time behind bars, yet they glorify it. The state consistently ranks close to last in every desirable category yet has resources other southern states do not (Mississippi River, the New Orleans port, travel destinations hosting major events like New Orleans, and oil).

Will things ever turn around or will the state always underachieve drastically?

The LA Politics class at LSU, by Wayne Parent, is a plus. Really interesting class (I took it as a random elective as a science major). As far as actual positives, not much.

As long as we always have low expectations, we will always struggle to meet them. And many people in LA want low expectations.

As the State vanishes into the Gulf of Mexico, only folks who can swim will be able to demonstrate residency.

Mate, Mississippi is like the only state in the union worse than Louisiana in every measurable way.

As long as Louisianians continue to wax over this state’s blatant flaws and be content to live in a dump this place will never get any better, and I’ve got news for you. We’ve never had a more rotten group of political leaders. Just look at the mayors of Baton Rouge, and New Orleans, and then the governor himself, and think... this is who Louisianians CHOSE to lead them. It’s not getting better. It’s getting worse. I wish I had better news, but I’m really not good at polishing up a turd and calling it a piece of chocolate. They are quite literally a mirror reflection of the people themselves, or let’s say the majority. That’s how they got into office.

The white collar crime they get away with keeps them off the streets at night. Imagine how much violent crime they would have to commit to earn equal money to skimming and kickbacks.
