...a bag of money is all you usually need to get their attention.

Seems like the state has always been known for corrupt politicians.
No matter how badly the state does in most rankings, we can always lead in one ranking - corruption.

Things Louisiana ranks highly in: Crime, Obesity, Poverty, STDs, Corruption
Things Louisiana ranks poorly in: Education, health, economic stability, and quality of life.
The state’s location should make us an economic powerhouse, but we have a very stupid citizenry who don’t feel that they deserve better. Anyone who comes around and talks about the things Louisiana could improve on is viewed as “uppidy” and “thinks they’re better” because our citizens are insecure, and don’t demand better for themselves or from their representatives.

If the politician has a nickname in quotation marks on their sign, you know that you’re fricked....

Speeding tickets don’t mean a thing if you know the right person

At least you know you're getting screwed by crooks.

Louisiana needs a referendum to become part of Texas. Abandon all Louisiana governments and school boards and let Texas put in place a provisional government of Texans to take over and oversee turning over everything to Texas' control. Texas would take over, rebuild the infrastructure, install independent school districts overseen by the Texas Dept. of Education and install elections run the Texas way, not Louisiana way. Tax policy would change. No more income tax, but your real estate tax goes up. Schools would improve drastically. Government would be only 5% as corrupt as it is now, and Texas might have enough clout to divert water back down the basin to help the coastal areas resilt, too. Industry would move back in and maybe even a technology corridor would form.

Will things ever turn around or will the state always underachieve drastically?
Not in our lifetimes I'm afraid. Not when people make voting decisions based on silly things like which candidate will make Jesus happy.

We ended up with Tiger Stafium as a result of Louisiana politics. Pushed through as bill to build dorms at LSU.

Just look at the mayors of Baton Rouge, and New Orleans, and then the governor himself, and think... this is who Louisianians CHOSE to lead them. It’s not getting better. It’s getting worse.
That's how you know it's corrupt as hell and possibly rigged in some way. I don't actually know anyone who likes any of these politicians, yet there they are, elected. Just like with the last presidential election....I only personally knew one person that was voting for the bitch. I either must just know only the intelligent half of people or there are some screwy things going on with elections.

I got nothing....

Failed lawyers can find jobs?? even become governor??

Instead of electing competent leaders, we have a race election based on how many voters can be bussed to the polls and paid a small sum to vote for their idiot of choice. We end up with Sharon Broome who is about as incompetent a mayor as any I have ever seen. She can come up with nice slogans " moving forward "..... and can't form a sentence without saying " community ". Now BR will spend several million to put a bike path down the middle of Government street while the murders go up and up and up. Moving forward??? my arse.

So who is paying for these and why? I don't think broom had any money...I don't live in baton rouge and don't follow too closely, but from what I've seen shes a POS like the rest of them. And how do you stop these paid votes? Seriously though, the most important question is why is someone putting them in office, who had what to gain from it? Who is profiting from her being there? Follow the money and you'll find the problem. Someone made more than they paid to put these corrupt pieces of shite in office. And god bless Donald Trump for having just enough umph to shut that shite down at the most important level.

I think Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Alabama, and to a lesser extent Mississippi will say outward migration is one good thing since they have generously benefited from our corrupt local and state governments.
