BTW, just found out this week that the BR firm that got the main contract is run by a dude who retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers. Paul Edmonson, of LA State Police fame, is the "consultant" on the project as well.

This thing is so ate up with old school LA politics that it makes me a bit ill. I don't mind the day to day behind the scenes bullshite they pull at the Capitol but I hate when they just wave it in my face.

Another prime example of the reason why LA’s government has been, and will forever remain, a shitshow.

That's a huge assumption. You know the Fed Gov't is going to scrutinize the figures before "handing over a 9 figure check". And, if the costs are remotely accurate, $100M to convert convention center; they better plan to go well over that $661M tab.

$661M * 10% = $66.1M that the State is on the hook for
*660M * 25% = $165M

$98.9M difference does not justify spending $100M on a make shift ICU. By the way, I'm sure everyone would have a different take if they spent $100M to build/rehab something that could be a permanent structure that would be able to serve the area in the future.

Pretty sure the Convention center closet was only $35 million or so. Still a huge waste considering they treated like 30 people there.

The other money was spent in ventilators and other hospital crap and yes JBE will be expecting the feds to pay us back

It was a case of dammed if you do dammed if you don’t. People here are all quick to throw him under the bus for creating that temp facility in the convention center that is largely unused. If he didn’t build anything and Covid was way worse and the facility was actually needed people would vilify him and say he didn’t care about people’s life’s and how could he have let people die.

To me, there was no harm in that part being prepared just in case. All it really cost was money*. Everything was shut down anyway and no conventions were going to go on.

So $100 million cost is just no big deal?

Do you think that means we all didn't pay for it?

It's not empty. It is way under capacity.

It was set up based on the medical experts predictions. Those predictions turned out to be inaccurate.

How is that a lie? Inaccurate does not mean lie. Information changed. Be grateful it did.

The state of Louisiana has signed contracts for more than $500 million to lease hotel rooms, buy medical equipment and services, and to build out the hospital facilities at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center amid the still-rising numbers of coronavirus patients.
I am likely low-balling it.

The last time I saw a specific number, it was $110M.

Oh, and this is why this is happening:

quote:

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is currently on track to pick up 75% of the tab and would pick up 90% once the state hits $661 million in expenses. Even if the state doesn’t move forward with the hotel deals, Tingle said it will continue to keep buying personal protective equipment for hospitals.
The a-hole JBE is selling out his state for federal money.

this is very close. I absolutely believe this. I have friends in the National Guard that work in the medical response teams, IT, and security.

Not only has that money been spent (in that amount, or more), but the Convention Ctr had a max of 5 patients. That is not a typo.

And to make matters worse, the NAtional Guard personnel have been move to BR now. The need is no longer in NO. However, if you listen to the Destroyer, you would never know this.

You want answers....follow the money.

As of yesterday there was 59 patients. Built out 2,000 rooms. Incidentally, most of the patients are homeless. Colossal waste of money.

The LA government wasted over $100 million on a hospital that isn’t going to be used by any significant number of patients so that JBE could try to drag more money out of the federal government.

Fact! JBE saw what N.Y. & Cali were doing, so he said, "Hey, I want some of that money, I mean action!)...
