You think Western Europeans are the only group to explore the globe?

Uh, this has pretty much been the M.O. of human wars all throughout our history until very recently: kill the other tribe's men, then give the women to the warriors as war treasure, take them back to your cave/hut and f*#k them. Then they spend the rest of their lives bearing your children, doing your laundry, and cooking your food. This was as true for American Indian tribes as it was for the Mongols, Arabs, or anyone else.

Would be a great 10 episode series from Netflix o

Netflix couldn't keep their woke ideology out of the script of the documentary. There would be trannies and they'd make the English look stupid and / or evil "colonists".

I do. Settlers didn't start the violence. They did try to convert everyone to Christianity, which was ignorant, but the natives didn't have to respond by slaughtering everyone.

The 'evil colonizers preying on the naive, peaceful natives' line is such a crock of shite.'

You undersell this line. Conversion is a form of conquest.

The natives may not have been technologically advanced, but they weren't stupid. They knew what was happening.

How about a stern 'no thanks' and then go about your business instead of massacring people and defiling their corpses.

You seem pretty ignorant of colonial history. Indians were far from being the good guys.

Would be a great 10 episode series from Netflix or Prime, from the initial attempt to form a group of people willing to chance it to the eventual assimilation into Croatoans.

And then we get to see their modern day descendants that are all LGBT.

You think the British were going to accept "No Thanks"? This was the literal mission of the Virginia Company. Absorb the Natives into the British system or get rid of them to make room for colonial economic activities.

Where did I say the Indians were "good guys"? Hm?

Yes, but even if not, they didn't go around slaughtering people. That was the natives. See the Anglo-Powhatan Wars for reference.

This really does make the most sense.

Brutal existence. They had to do whatever they had to do to survive even if that meant joining a tribe or however that worked.

Just thinking about all this makes me have so much respect for the men and women who sailed over here.

The balls on these people. I mean, where you lived sucked so badly you got on a fricking sailboat headed into never ending seas not knowing if you’d ever hit land again.

I can’t imagine it. I really cannot imagine the turmoil inside these people as they boarded to head over here. Just incredible story of how tough human beings are.

We aren’t meant to sit in our rooms and play video games all day.

I sincerely think that the exceptionalism that the United States once enjoyed (and still does in my opinion) is due to the fact that most of our ancestors were crazier than a shite house rat. Imagine living even in squalid conditions in England and Scotland and Ireland and the rest of Europe and telling your neighbors you were thinking about going to the new world. Almost inevitably I would bet the first thing out of their mouth is "have you lost your fricking mind??? The natives will eat you, you won't survive the passage, you will starve to death" etc etc etc. There is something, I believe, inherently in most of our DNA which makes us more risk tolerant than others...and it has been instilled in everyone who comes to the US, even those brought here against their will....it just took guts and brawn to survive. Its inherent in the people coming now...I will bet that a Guatemalan women who tells her best friend she is considering walking from Central America to the US is immediately asked "are you fricking nuts"...and the answer then and now is, yes, after a fashion, it is nuts...and it worked out well.

No kidding. We moved from Georgia to Europe in 2006 and everyone we knew thought we were crazy. Folks willing to uproot their life and get outside their comfort zone are just built differently. Not better, just different. I sincerely believe it is largely responsible for this being the greatest nation ever....our ancestors were crazy enough to dream.

That's probably closer to the truth than assimilation.

Almost certainly. Some of the women may have eventually become more or less equal to the native women, especially if they were young and attractive, but almost certainly the men were enslaved and did not live long.

The people who never figured out the wheel weren't forging weapons. More like foraging for pointy rocks to use as weapons.

From a NA perspective, the rational response to the Europeans showing up would be to treat them as an invading force. The ones that violently resisted probably bought themselves some time, based on the experience of more welcoming native populations.

Something to keep in mind with UFOs being so much in the news lately.

For sure. If the aliens are capable of mounting an intergalactic invasion of earth, we are almost definitely fricked, but if we allow them to land and assemble peacefully that “almost” goes away.

Dude, they misspelled Croatian. Bunch of Croat oystermen found them and they hitched a ride to Dubrovnik.
