The look and behavior of what you describe lead to a gray fox. They look like a cross between a red fox in the head and a coyote with long legs, but climb as well as a cat.

Foxes generally have thick bushy tails and less prominent ears. Coyotes have fluffier tails and very prominent ears. Generally a bit larger than a fox too.
Also red coat vs brundle red. Foxes generally have a more consistent color coat.
I would guess coyote from your OP.

I would say its most likely a coyote. I used to have a brown miniature poodle also named CoCo.

Yeah, my grandparents taught me well and called me on it anytime I bastardized any of their old cajun french colloquialisms.

t is extremely rare for foxes to eat or kill cats, as they are not natural prey. Foxes and cats are similar in size (8-12 lbs) and usually avoid each other, with cats often chasing foxes away. While foxes may act cautiously around cats, incidents are generally limited to protecting their young or scavenging an already dead.
Well, not in my neighborhood. The foxes in my area cleaned up an ongoing problem with feral cats.

think y'all are missing the part where it climbed a chain link fence. Maybe I haven't seen enough coyotes in my life, but generally canine species aren't vertical climbers like that.
A coyote will hope an eight foot fence without a thought. They would scale a 6 foot chainlink with no problem
