Cell phones didn't become overly commonplace until the 1990's. Even then, the plans were so expensive, a family typically only had one that was shared.
Youth probably didn't start getting their on phones til the 2000's.
Therefore, I'd think the oldest that the average person had a phone in high school would be in their mid 30's now.

I can remember my friend having a bag phone when we were 16 (1994). But her parents spoiled her(she got the phone when she was given a brand new sporty mazda on her sweet 16 bday).

I first became aware of them b/c of Archie Manning doing radio ads for "Bell South Mobility" on WWL's Buddy D Show

Anyone else remember those?

Damn I can’t imagine how much that cost back then.

No clue. I was 15-16. Of course I didn’t use it much. It was only for emergencies and was pretty much permanently installed in my vehicle. I was able to take it out if needed didn’t have to very often.

I do remember getting in trouble a few times because of high bills.

My first was a similar looking Audiovox tri-mode in 99 or 2000. I usually just left it in my truck. Was still using phone cards for long distance.

One thing I miss about pre-cellphone life was that people actually had to make plans on when and where they would meet, with no last second change of plans.

I had a company Motorola bag cell phone in the early or mid 90s. Boss would bitch when my cell phone bill was over $1,000 a month with ridiculous roaming charges.

I didn’t get a cell phone until as a HS graduation present. One time during my senior year of high school I ran out of gas about 1am on highland road between kenilworth and Staring. I just sat in my car with my flashers on and some random person stopped, picked me up, brought me to his house to get his gas can, then back to the car. My parents didn’t know until the next morning. I really didn’t think anything of it. Can you imagine that happening to a kid now? This was back in 01-02

That's right, Aiden. You coddled little bitch. Now run and get daddy a beer or, it's this new thing we call a leather belt.

God knows your generation could use a few pops.

Thinking about it now I can’t imagine this generation with their parents doing that. They would freak out not knowing there exact location

Before the cell phone we and most other parents routinely left our kids with baby sitters who most of the time would have no way to contact us. If we were gone for a long time we would call the house on a pay phone to check on the kids, today that would probably be considered child abuse.
