I've had a couple of dachshunds who would eat your shite if you came in the yard, but I agree it seems the predominant dog that bites is a pit, I wouldn't have one and don't want my son around one. They seem to be like my ex wife, bi-polar.

The difference is the severity. Dachshunds, chihuahuas, etc bite but they don’t murder children.

frick pits they should be sterilized along with their trashy fricking owners.

Yeah dachshunds are little shits but they won’t be putting you in the hospital.

Pits are legitimately dangerous animals.

I know a few pits and they are really sweet dogs. That being said, I’ve only had to go to the hospital once for a dog bite, and it was from a pit.

This is like playing with a loaded gun...you never know when it will go off and you'll wonder why you didn't have the foresight to act like a responsible parent before it happened!

I hear this comparison used a lot.

You are wrong. A loaded gun is much more predictable than a dog. Guns are mechanical objects with no feelings or intellect. They go off when the firing mechanism is activated. This is a very specific and predictable series of events.

A dog is a living being, with feelings and intellect. It is not at all predictable. And pit bulls have been bred to be fast, strong, and deadly.

I'd feel much safer around a loaded gun. As long as it's not in the hands of some dumbass.

Awww tell us where the mean Pit Bull owner touched you...

Most of the Pit owners I know are awesome people who have rescued their pet from a shitty owner or a kill shelter. Mine was a rescue and she is not even close to aggressive. The key is keeping them around people and other animals, and not locked up in a tiny cage all day. They need exercise and companionship, they are terriers. She treats my son like he is her puppy. Best pet I've ever had.

How do you know that the dog is really a pitbull and not a different breed that resembles a pitbull Can you ID the pitbull?

most dogs bite and slash, that's the big difference.

Pits have massive jaw and neck muscles, and they are bred (designed) to clamp down and not release.

I know someone that works at an animal shelter, one of the 'don't kill' places. Pretty stout dude, 5'8, 200 lbs, used to work out, built like an ex football player. He was cleaning out an area and took his eyes off a pit (who was behaving just fine, was at shelter because it was abandoned, not because of an attack). The pit hit him on the lower leg, tore through the thick rubber boots he was wearing. Dog wouldn't release when he was spraying it with a hose. Wouldn't release as he beat it with a rake, he broke the rake handle hitting it.

He had to drag the dog into the gate and then choke it down with the gate, shutting it on the dog's neck (and remember, we're talking a solid 200 lb dude doing this). Had to lean into the gate to eventually choke the pit out, as it passed out it loosened enough that he got his leg free.

Had that been a child, or even an average adult woman, it most likely would have been a fatal attack.

We grew up around big dogs; owned boxers for years. Friends had Dobermans, neighbor had dalmations. No other breed I've been around compares to what pits do. They're just not a safe animal to have.

Numbers don't lie...

Over 3.5 Million Pit Bulls in the US.
An avg of 20 deaths per year.
Do the math, that is a VERY SMALL percentage of the breed.

That many people are killed in drunk driving accidents daily.
Think about that.
Death penalty for all drunk drivers, seems appropriate by the logic here.

So let me get this straight.. Pit bull attacks are keeping the medical industry in business?

According to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics, black males account for 37% of the total male prison population, while blacks only make up 12% of the U.S. population. So, in your opinion, does this mean that we should eradicate black males?

How many of those black males are poor and can't afford a good lawyer? Does your statistics factor that in?

Eradicate all pits.

Eradicate any owner who rises up and opens their mouth about it.

And stay off my lawn.

The comparisons made in pit bulls defense are laughable, but I’ll try to play along.

All people are capable of drunk driving. When people drive drunk they are more likely injure others. There are laws prohibiting driving drunk. We put drunk drivers in jail and remove their privileges.

All dogs can bite...but when pit bulls bite, they predictably maim and kill. This is an undeniable fact. How we enforce the proactive removal of biting privileges from a dog is different than removing drunk driving privileges from a human. Because dogs and humans are different.

The obvious similarity between pit bulls and drunk drivers are that they are more dangerous than others in their population.

The obvious difference is that there are people that irrationally advocate that pit bulls are not the most dangerous dogs one can own. There is no argument that well-raised drunk drivers are not dangerous.
