Holy crap..this place is the trashiest store I've ever been in.

My local Dollar Genera is run like an Apple Store.

It’s so clean you could eat off the floor.

The staff is helpful almost to the point of being annoying.

I’ve seen some trashy ones, though.

DG quality is directly related to the surrounding environment. They have popped up everywhere in rural MS, even along seemingly empty sections of 4lane HWY near my house that have a lot of travelers to Mobile/GS. The one in my town is legit, and even just added a produce/fresh grocery section.

Somehow our store lucked out with $1 Pepsi 2ltr products and 1.25 Coke products. The other stores in nearby towns have all had higher prices on drinks for some reason.

Only bad thing with their soda is that they seem to leave it outside & it goes to shite.

I have noticed over the years dollar general not leaving as much shite outside, but that is my only complaint.

The quality of DG and FD are inversely proportional to the number of stores in an area. If there are 4-5 dollar stores in an area of 4 sq. miles then you can bet that they are all equally the trashiest place that you could set foot in. (I'm looking at you Ville Platte, get your shite together)

With our prices the drinks sell like hot cakes. Coke is refilling their shelves at least 3 times a week. I figured our Pig would drop their prices because of this but they continue to sell for nearly $2, so no one buys that shite lol

Lol oh I know. It's like that here too, but you can see what the heat has done to the sodas. I still buy them occasionally because they are expensive at Walmart and that's 30 mins away lol. Just saying, that they def used to leave more shite outside, but yeah, can't beat their price.

It’s like any store. Compare any random McDonalds in say Baton Rouge to one in a nice area like Frisco here in DFW. The hiring pool will be upper middle class high school/college kids in Frisco. Every fast food place has the service everyone praises chik fil a for.

The Dollar Tree near me is mostly full of holiday/seasonal stuff. It's not a general store like Dollar General.

Yeah they're really not too similar

DG/FD are replacements for supermarkets in "food deserts", which is something the drug store chains do as well. Hence they're often in the ghetto or in pretty rural areas.

I'm sure they make a killing selling mostly shitty products w/o much competition. But if I ever find myself in need of a Koss CD player for like 44.99, I know where to go.

Four years ago there was a line of 6 GI Joe action figures that was exclusive to Dollar General. They were $6 each in the store, but were selling for $20 to $40 online. The distribution was bad, and only certain markets could get them, and collectors in Canada and Europe did not have any access. I was hitting all the DG stores around Baton Rouge, and buying all I could find. Then I found a friendly manager who ordered me 40 cases of 6. I got about halfway through selling the 40 cases when the distribution caught up and the bottom fell out.

I kept about 10 cases and dropped another 10 in a toys for tots bin. I made a mint, made a charitable contribution, and had plenty leftover. Certain figures in the line have since heated up on the collector market, and I have started selling them again.

I had to pass that dollar store every time I went to an ex's family's house in BFE. I used to want to go in and put 25% down on a $1 item.....Dumb count never would pull over and let me do that though.
