Best view I had was at 16000 feet on kilimanjaro. You could see the clouds of Magellan too. That high up things don't twinkle as much so it's all sharp.
Got to see them again in backcountry venezuela, also very good.

so, are you my brother or LSU Dave?
Umm not sure. I've been living here for right at two years. Do you have any other siblings? I do. Are you my brother?
I might know a Dave around here that is from Louisiana and an LSU fan. Met him once.

Wow I would love to see that. Did you make it to the peak? I'm preparing over the next about 2 years to summit Kilomanjaro. Any tips?

Ha, no, only one sibling. My brother and his wife have been out there a while now. Can't imagine there are two Daves from Napoleonville in Flagstaff, so guessing that's the same guy. Nice guy. It's a great area, I imagine you'll love it. Tiger fan slowly taking over the world.

Pretty sure everything you see in this picture are only individual stars.

The picture is a little dark because I could have used a better lens. I also have noticed that this picture looks darker depending on your screen.
However if you notice the band jutting up vertically in the middle, this looking at the night sky due south, so you can see a portion of the Milky Way looking towards the center of the galaxy. Just what we can see at night. Clusters of stars and dust forming the band.

Sedona, AZ by
One of my favorite places in the US
It's a beautiful place, and I suggest taking Oak Creek Canyon Road/Route 89A out of Sedona and climb up 4,500' up to the top of the Mogollon Rim, just outside of Flagstaff. It's truly a stunning drive and even better on a motorcycle. Rand McNally has named it one of the Top 5 Scenic Drives in the US. Sedona is a bit of a tourist trap but definitely worth a visit (or ten).

Nice pic. The night sky is amazing. I love a nice clear, crisp night with no light pollution.

Not anywhere near the quality of your photo, but cathedral rock during the day:

Very cool. I still have a goal of taking a stargazing/hiking trip out that way at some point.
