I need some of yalls experiences with excessive drinking/alcoholism.

Since the beginning of the Covid shutdowns, I started drinking much more frequently. This last week, I’ve had a bottle of wine every night and got destroyed last night with friends. I’ve gotten hammered pretty much every weekend for the last few months and drink usually 2-3 drinks during the week at night.

I make horrible decisions and do stupid shite when i get as drunk as I did last night. It’s starting to take a toll on my wife/marriage. She’s now at the point where she has said “if you keep this up I’m leaving.”

I’m not sure how I’ve gotten to this point but I’m here and I don’t like it. I don’t consider myself an alcoholic but I’m almost there.

Any advice or experience from the OT?

Cocaine seems like a viable alternative

You can stay at my house and we can get drunk together.

Well, if you feel like you are starting to have issues the first thing I'd do is stop buying it. It's hard to have a few drinks when there's none in the house.

Stop drinking. If you can’t you have a problem and get your arse in a program.

Trust me, that’s nothing so I don’t think you’re in physical trouble. Find something to do....buy a guitar, run, golf, cook.

Is there anything forcing you to drink? Work stress etc? Try to find another use for your time or seek help. If you're posting about this here you probably should

Sounds like you have a boring wife. Divorce her and marry a younger one that likes to have fun with you

Tell her you think you have a problem and figure out a solution together

So you recognize there is a problem and you haven't corrected it yet?

Not sure what we can do for you.

Yeah, a bottle of wine per day isn't good for you by any means but that wouldn't even give me a buzz. It would just make me fat.

Know your limits. If you can’t have a few drinks without going overboard then you shouldn’t drink. I’ve had the same problem for the last few months and had to do some soul searching and know my limits

You should. You’re way passed that stage bro. Get help now or lose everything. Take up a hobby, just do something that doesn’t require drinking

If it continues even though you try your best you’ve crossed the line into alcoholism.
In that case go to AA.

Sounds as though you're at a crossroad. The choice is yours - your marriage or alcohol.

I've been sober for more than 24 years now. I still do a lot of stupid stuff - drunk driving and pissing off employers and SOs because I drink too much are not among those stupid things.

There is a lot of help out there if you choose to get sober. Good luck!

When you start do you drink more than you intended?

Could you stop right now on your own? Sounds like you have sufficient reason to.

If you can’t control how much you drink once you start and you can’t stay stopped, I would seek out a 12 step program and work the steps.
