You’re a good dog owner and you gave him a great life.

I read that sitting here at 5am in a quiet house with my best friend. We’ve had him for only 5 months now and I’m already dreading that day. Is there anything better though than a dog that loves you?

Very touching. Dogs are awesome. Sorry for your loss. I've lost 4 of my own in my adult life, have the pups now, and it's very difficult. Great tribute

Our little buddy turned 13 last week. Still kicking like he’s half his age. I love him like you loved yours.

Good read. I lost my Ellie on December 1st of last year. She was 14. Had cancer but it was a heart issue that got her. Her last few weeks she spent much of the day coughing. It was exhausting. The meds didn't do much.
I knew she was in pain. So I set an appointment to put her down with our vet on the 1st of December. I loaded her with her medicine and let her eat whatever she wanted. She finally got to try chocolate and I was already feeding her human food making last few days comfortable.
Her last day she pooped on her self. I tried to get her to get up and go outside to the back but she was fighting to go to the front. She had been spending her non coughing time sitting in the front yard watching things pass. Anyway I forced her to the back so I could clean her off. She was exhausted and wheezing. I could tell she was close. I had to go do two jobs before bringing her to vet.
When I got home she was laying down and other dogs were whining. I noticed bubbles coming from her nose and a totally limp body.
For the last year I've been upset I didn't let her stay in the front. Or upset that I went to work. Or upset I didn't put her down sooner.
Losing a dog is hard.

Good dogs never live long enough. Sorry for your loss. When they become a part of your family losing them is tougher than a lot of folks realize.

Beautiful tribute. I lost my best friend of 12 years and 8 months on August 7th. I still cry every day, and miss him so much.

I just broke down recently and adopted a dog. He's just 2. I'm already hooked. Reading this makes me sad knowing one day I'll deal with this too.

Sorry man. I dated a chick last year that had a cavalier with the same marble pattern. Good dog. Very patient and friendly.

Thanks for your story. Both of my toy poodles passed last year. 2 youngest Lithettes each got one and I inherited them when they went to LSU. They helped me with my divorce. They loved to travel and I took them flying with me. I still miss them.

Do you really cry every day for a dog that died 3 months ago?

My 15 yr old lab is at the vet this morning. I fear that the news is going to be bad. I honestly wasn't sure she would wake up this morning.
I am dreading what is coming.

For you and the other high school kid lamely trolling this thread, hope you acquire some maturity soon as otherwise your life is gonna suck.

But if you're actually an adult, enjoy your misery.

I just said a prayer for you and your friend. I'm so sorry.

Be strong for those around you, help your dog pass as easily as possible when the tine comes, and be proud knowing you did right by your loyal friend.

You are both winners.

My heart breaks with yours. I understand the loss you feel, even a year later. We lost our beautiful Shepherd Dini on Oct 1, 2021, a year ago. She was almost 15. We were constant companions and her passing has left a major hole in our lives, mine especially. Without detail, she had been healthy most of her life; later years she had arthritis, but we kept that down to a minimum. But the last month or so she started losing her appetite and was sleeping more than before. I saw the handwriting on the wall. Took her to our wonderful vet, who did some very key things, like hydrating her and keeping her nourished. But while she fought valiantly, Dini kept failing in that week. Still, it seemed she might have one more rally left in her, and I did not want to make that inevitable last decision too soon, but on our way home Dini slipped away peacefully and quietly in our back seat. God in his mercy spared her more struggle, and us from having to make that final decision.
